Koorong.com has just launched a new website and they are doing 30% off online-only sale for today and tomorrow (22-23 August). 30% off is very rare at Koorong, and last year a once-off 25% off got pretty good response.

Conditions: 30% discount applies to Web Store purchases paid for at time of order by credit card only. Discount does not apply to bookstall purchases, NETT priced items, tickets, licences, eBooks, or to purchases of gift cards/vouchers. Web orders must be received between 00:01am Thursday 22nd August 2013 and 23:59pm, Friday 23rd August 2013 to receive discount [all times are Australian Eastern Standard Time (Sydney)]. Discount does not apply to email, fax, phone, on-hold items, orders posted to Koorong, BPAY, prepaid orders, in-store orders, orders charged to a Koorong account, or backorders. Items cannot be set aside for customer pick up.

  • Just ordered something from there the other day for Dad, but now with this going to go back and stock up on presents!

  • Out of interest Scotty, do Koorong email you or do you just frequent the site? It just seems like every Koorong deal is posted by you

    • +16

I'm on Koorong's mailing list so I guess people on their mailing list would have received the same mail? We also used to have a Koorong rep but has not been online for the last 10 months…

      • -1

the scary thing is these would NOT be in the fiction section.

    • +1

Actually, if you notice, first deal on this forum was Koorong, posted by scotty :)

      Reference: Stats Record

  • +6

I was thinking what are all these books, then i read the full post

Koorong is a Christian book store

    • +14

Not that there's anything wrong with that

    • +2

Do they have a non-fiction section?

      • +15

Well, to answer your question literally, yes there are non-fiction sections. Lots of research, history, applications, etc. There are also Christian fictions though/

        • +7

@daffo — No. You can go and check out the website yourself. Fiction section but I don't read them so can't recommend any.

        • Are the Christian fictions in the Bible section?

Say 'Christian fictions' five times as fast as you can.
          It ain't easy…

          …but I don't read them…

          Sweet Jesus, that's a relief…

Tried reading the Bible once - got as far as Cain & Abel and their escalating disagreement. My understanding is that Cain committed the first sin, and we seem to have been on a roll ever since…

They have a great collection of creationist textbooks here such as "Evolution Impossible: 12 Reasons Why Evolution Cannot Explain The Origin Of Life On Earth". Total bargain.

From the blurb: "Regardless of your level of scientific education, you will finish this book able to cite 12 reasons why evolution cannot explain the origin of life." In other words you will be able to parrot the insane ramblings of the author in order to maintain your ignorance. Ace.

    • +1

Way to, literally, judge a book by its cover. And the author, and what may well be a credibly sceptical scientific community engaged in a robust discourse (irrespective of faith).

Did you know there are dimensions of evolutionary theory that even its greatest proponents admit don't answer all questions?

Or were you leaving openmindedness and inquiry to intelligent folk, including those of us who have no problem reconciling scientific knowledge and our understanding of the Bible as a living text?

      Just wondering out aloud…

      • -1

Dude, in my opinion creationism is the very height of the ridiculous. If the current theory of evolution gets amended or refined I'll wait to read about it in a scientific journal. As the saying goes "Study one religion and you're hooked for a lifetime. Study two and you're done in an afternoon." Live long and prosper.

        • +17

I'm certain those with creationist beliefs (which doesn't include me) thank you for your opinion, sweeping generalisation, mastery of all expertise in a scientific realm that continues to yield up both answers and increasingly complex questions. We are all richer for it.

How about you keep comments on the bargain itself, and show a little restraint next time you flippantly and personally attack a book you've never read to air your contempt for a faith you've never shared.

I find your comments inflammatory, unneccesary, ill-informed and completely uncalled for in a deal you could have simply let your non-vote do the talking on.

Unless your aim was to air your ignorance on both Christian faith and Evolutionary theory?

        • +4

Evolution theory = The idea of a world created from nothing and that humans evolved from slime. That could also be called ridiculous

          Oh … +1 for the deal :)

        • +2

Hmmmm… pissopossum - member since 22/08/2013. 2 comments. You joined ozbargain just to make bad comments on this bargain?!?!? Perhaps by making such comments you maintain your own ignorance on the world view.

        • -3

Yeah, I'll admit I was just having a laugh.

        • @Methotical i cant tell if you your trolling or not….

    • I would like to point out that while evolution is contested by a large portion of Christian believers, but you might be surprised to hear that not all disagree with it.

      • +6

Most people who ridicule Christianity, aren't laughing at the the 95%, they're laughing at the the 5%… who pretends to represent the 95%.

    • +9

Does that mean Christians should steer clear as well? Do you go on deals for women's products telling men to steer clear from those deals? I don't get your comment.

      • -2

        hahaha

        • Or that one.

  • Postage is a bit of a killer unless you go in with a group of people or want heaps of stuff.

    • Yes unfortunately it's online only and not available in the shops. $99+ for free delivery so time to email friends to do group buys.

      • I just stocked up on presents for birthdays - $150 easily!

      • I have to avoid these sales since even entering Koorong usually results in an empty purse or a hefty credit card bill, so the $99 is too easy to go past for me. Luckily I have a friend who regularly goes there and I ask them to collect just the one or two books that I really want so I don't see any more to add to the purchase list.

Orson Scott Card books are pretty good…

There was an interesting article wrt Jesus people on GQ the other day:-

    http://www.gq.com/entertainment/music/200401/rock-music-jesu…

Just mentioning it as an aside. It really doesnt have anything else to do with the discussion. Read it if you want to, I don't care.

Beng an atheist I am struggling not to put some comment on here. But…this is a legitimate bargain and has every right to be here to give people the advantage of scooping up a deal in a area of their interest. It really shouldn't be turned into an attack on people's beliefs or opinions.

Three things people seem to love to attack here….religion, apple products and Dr.Dre headsets ;-)

    • +6

Dr. Dre isn't even a real doctor.

    • I'd say people are okay with religion in General.

What we're not okay with is the oppressive nature of some religion. You don't see people mocking Buddhism much… then again you don't see Buddhist forcing themselves on people/society.

Note, no one has Neg the actual topic.

    • +3

My favourite comment ever on a Koorong deal slipperypete. Thank you for your simple act of restraint, which epitomises tolerance.

    • +1

I love to see tolerance from both atheists and Christians - thanks for showing everyone how it's done slipperypete :)

    • Beng an atheist I am struggling not to put some comment on here.

I struggled too, at least momentarily, but my forces of farce were too strong for me…

its funny how the religious nutters say poƃ created the world yet they have absolutely no evidence to back that up. its like me saying little green aliens created the world. prove me wrong!

    • The fact that you started this conversation means that the burden of proof lies with you. Prove to me that the world started with a big bang. Who\what started it? What was the reason behind the bang? What is its ultimate purpose?

Just like those "religious nutters" your beliefs ultimately lie in faith and theory.

      • But it has a lot lot lot lot more backing than a book… its doesn't set it self in stone… its open to discussion…

For all we know know some guy named "hey zues" traveled to the east on a "multi gap year", learned some magic tricks and some aspects of Buddhism…

After his death, an entrepreneur cleric realized this that guys religion was a better way of controlling people than multi gods.

  • I've been meaning to get to a store to buy a parenting book but couldn't find the time, so this is perfect! I basically look at it that I can get free express shipping thanks to the discount :)

    • -4

      I've been meaning … to buy a parenting book…

      1. Take child in one hand.

      2. Take Bible in the other hand (that's a capital 'B' to you heathens).

      3. Gently insert Bible down throat of said child, gradually increasing level of force if required while declaring "resistance is futile!".

      All i got was a sore throat…

      • What the f*** did I just read?

  • Koorong is a Christian book store.
