Dell XPS 8700

I have been looking at the XPS 8700 as with the current $500 off offer it's a better deal than the similarly priced Alienware X51.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a better deal on a similar spec PC or someone who would do a custom build?

  • What are you using it for? For gaming this is a better system:

This is without customising to better suit your needs.

A 7850 is a compromise, Crysis 3 will only be playable on Medium ish settings and that doesn't bode well for future games. That Dell is a joke. It matches a locked i7 with a pansy 650 Ti with 16GB or RAM for some demented reason. To top it all $1400 and you don't have a clue of the quality of the mobo or PSU (both will be rubbish).

Because it is a workstation not a 'look at my mad Crysis frame rate!1' machine?

Why would a workstation match that kind of GPU with an i7? Why not something quadro then? Its overpriced junk.

Lots of shops will do a custom build. Where are you [located?

PCCG, MSY, UMART, Scorptech, PCDIY etc. all do custom builds, and they are located everywhere in Aus. MSY is usually the cheapest place to get parts though.
