Doesn't everyone just use their phone nowadays?

    • Which are the best GPS phone apps? By best, I mean simplest, most intuitive operation.

        Google Maps?

  • I'm satisfied with my Garmin Nuvi 40. Doesn't do bluetooth/mp3's (I don't need that stuff). Does have lifetime maps, speed limits, spoken directions. $78 at JB at the moment (but it has been cheaper; maybe you can do better elsewhere?)

Garmin and Tomtom are both well regarded by different people. Navman seems to have a bad rep with many, but others seem to be happy.

Tried my phone as a GPS for awhile, but much prefer having a dedicated unit.

    • Ill second your last bit, prefer a dedicated unit. Phones are okay, but i find having a GPS permanently in my car is easier then dealing with pugging in my phone, putting it in its holder…

I do leave my GPS in there permanently though, even though its bad because people will see and supposedly steal it, but GPS's are that cheap anyway these days, i cant really see anyone bothering to break in…

I have a TomTom but its an older model without life time maps. The maps is a load of crap having to buy new ones, so i just run old ones.. Most of the time i only use it for navigating to an actual house in suburbs anyway, and most of the rest of the trip is signposted….

  • Thank you all for the comments..
@gakpie does Garmin Nuvi 40 has lane assist?

Yes - the Nuvi 40 has lane assist.

  • Navman have some on special atm $119/129 and up with trade-in. But I bought a tomtom v280 a while ago for about $160 with lifetime maps and bluetooth phone con.. A must I reckon, with fines at $289, well worth it.

  • I've been looking into these 2, they seem pretty similar as they're both 5", would appreciate it if someone with any experience with any of them could give me any hints. Also, are there any better features you could get from more expensive models?

  • I ended up buying the Garmin 52LM at Dick Smith on sale for 102$ and so far so good…
