Dell UltraSharp U3014 30'' Monitor with PremierColor (Includes 30% off) $1294

Hi All,
This deal was showing on the Dell site. It will be there for a whole week. This is the latest 30 inch monitor from Dell. I think Dell has increase the unit price (perhaps due to weaker Australian dollars?) and then gave us the 30% discount from that higher price. For $ 1294, is it worth it? Appreciate your comments. Thanks.

  • Think it's a good price. The only thing you must worry is its size. If you really need a 30" monitor then it's worth it.

  • Thanks for the input. I guess no one absolutely must have such a big monitor. But after seeing this photo, with Al Gore working with 3 30" monitors, it got me interested! Here is the link to the photo:

I have worked with a single 30" before and it feels nice to have the bigger screen area, even if is just for opening multiple files. I looked around but I can't seem to find any other 30" monitor at the moment selling locally. Also, the Dell unit is only running at 60 Hz. For its high price, I would have be interested in something that can generate 120 Hz rate. Not for 3D purpose, but a more stable image. There is no choice at the moment.

  • Make sure you have a PC with a decent graphics card to drive it at its native resolution of 2560 x 1600.

    • The last computer I worked with that used 30" monitor was running on a Nvidia 8800 GT. I saw my friend played Statecraft 2 on medium setting. It ran fine. Probably not going to run too many modern games well with that graphic card though. Besides games, I don't think 2560 X 1600 is a problem in running 2D applications with even older cards.
