Mac discounts – does it apply to specially config machines?

Once in a blue moon, JB, Myer, HN, etc gives out the famous 10% off Macs. I have two questions:

  • Does the discount usually applies to specially configured laptops? If I want to upgrade the RAM or HD, will the discount still valid?
  • If I show the discount to Sydney Apple Store, will they price match it?

Cheers

Usually they have a disclaimer that excludes built to order, as noted here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110650

Is it possible to buy it discounted and purchase the upgrades separately?

    • I don't think purchasing the upgrades separately is not an option. There wouldn't be a line item in their system to charge for the upgrade (they would only have the line item with different configs).

Thanks for pointing out that JB Hi Fi deal. I wonder if other stores are the same.

  • Usually not, but you can sometimes squeeze in a sweet talk with one of the guys… i managed to do a Macbook Air with an 8 gig ram upgrade and still get 10% off. I asked at JB, Domayne, Myers - all 3 were willing to do it. Ended up going with myer so I could use my awards points and pay with AMEX since I get more points back.

    • I see, do they usually keep the BTO laptops in stock, or do you have to wait? Next time there's a myer sale I'm going to try then.
