Looking to buy a good DJ controller that works with Traktor

Hi OzBargainers, I've been having heaps of fun recently just tinkering around with Traktor 2 on my computer and have been looking into purchasing a controller.
I did some research and the Traktor S2 looks pretty nice, but I'm not sure if it's overkill for my beginner level.

Thanks!

  • The S2 is fine for a beginner

I have been using the pioneer DDJ-T1 but that is more on the pricier end but is fantastic. I dont have any complaints about it at all

The Numark 4Trak or the Pioneer Ergo arnt that bad either.

For a beginner i would prob recommend the Pioneer Ergo

  • From my research many years ago the BCD2000 works. Might want to check that

  • BCD2000 not compatible with windows 7 or 8, beware.
Well, by not compatible i mean behringer never released any drivers for anything past win xp sp3.

I would go with the s2, consider that once you are past beginner stage, you don't want to get stuck with something too light on features.

  • Go a secondhand s4

  • Lots of people that recommend the Denon 3000, any thoughts? :S

  • I have a secondhand S4 that I'm looking at selling - Not sure how much it would cost to post to melbourne, but I'll be looking at putting up a classified ad with all of my gear.

Failing that, I also have some x1's, which can control 2 decks without the fader (if you're doing a lot of Dancey EDM or electro stuff etc) - thats a super cheap way of starting, but lacks faders, which can be a bit of a pain.

If you're using Traktor, you're best off using Traktor gear - I did manage to map out my cheap $100 controller and that worked absolutely fine 90% of the time, but once you get more experience you'll want to use the right controllers. If you want to use other gear, I'd suggest checking out Serato Scratch or Virtual DJ, both fantastic.
