  • Is this really a "bargain" - more like normal retail price for a poor to average quality item ?

  • Spend a bit more and get a Wind, or better yet, an 10" eeePC.

Not worth saving such little amount for rubbish parts imo.

    EDIT: 3-cell battery, PASS.

  • While the agora pro does seem a little better, you still have to factor in the $30 delivery charge which is mandatory (no pick ups). $569 will get you an MSI wind u100 these days

  • The Kogan Agora netbook got a rave review on gizmodo.com.au.
Good quality construction, design and the price is right.

However, it's the regular price for this item..
worth posting for awareness value only. It's not a bargain.

  • I'm ticked off about buying a Asus EEE 1000H, I wish I had known, I would of waited and got the IBM LENOVO S10, beautiful machine!

I was tempted by the Kogan, but decided I'd prefer a quality netbook over a cheaply made one.
In the end I decided to order a Samsung NC10 from the UK - total cost was AU$660 fedexed to my door - it arrived in 4 days and it's an awesome netbook - 10.2" screen, excellent 93% keyboard (17.7mm pitch), a 6-cell battery that lasts for ages and 160GB 5400rpm drive - and the usual 1.6Ghz Atom, 1GB ram (upgradeable to 2GB), Wifi, Bluetooth.
You only have to read the reviews of the Samsung NC10 to see why it's worth it:

(and yes, there's an updated n110 model coming soon too, which has an even bigger battery and glossy screen, but they kept everything else the same as it was already excellent :)
I ordered mine from www.handtec.co.uk if anyone's interested.

The Kogan website claims their unit is a 10.1" 1024x600 which I believe is a mistake. Is it a 10.1" 1024x576 LCD or a 10.2" 1024x600? Vertical resolution is tight already, so those 24-pixels are important.

I agree with Radix comments. NC10 is an awesome buy at ~$650. It's battery life sits between MSI Wind U100 and the super-long battery life of ASUS 1000HE, closer to 1000HE, but is priced closer to MSI Wind U100. Release of setfsb allowing overclocking of NC10 makes it the best buy from the 10.2" units IMHO.

    Comment about Lenovo S10. It's 3-cell means it's relatively poor value. The updated S10e with a 6-cell uses 10.1" 1024x576. So deal-breaker either way.

Consider netbook price watch thread at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1171893 .

  • Usually, these OEM ones cost very little to make because they save heaps on R&D. I once saw a OEM 7" netbook on youtube sale for $89 USD at a shop.

    • Running on an ARM processor it's not surprising.
