Number of votes to get deals on the default front page

I am wondering if there is an exact figure to get deals to the default front page(the page that non members see and members who haven't altered their settings). I posted a deal for Woolworths earlier today which at the time of this post has 16 positive votes. There is a Target deal which has just gotten to the front page with only 12 votes. I can't figure out why this is on the front page and my post isn't. Earlier tonight I noticed other deals on the front page with 15 votes.

I looked through the site information and the wiki and couldn't find a definite answer. I saw that it might have something to do with the store the deal came from but I don't really understand this.

I'm not trying to get my deal to the front page. I'm trying to figure out how this site works as I've only been a member for a few months.

    Explains it all here

Another issue I am trying to solve is, I want to bring deals that gain enough momentum, i.e. getting many votes within a short period of time, to rise to the front page even when it has not yet reached the minimum votes (20).
Currently rate is that for every 30 minutes, new deals need one more vote above m/2 to be on the front page. Due to the way rounding works, a deal needs

Only 11 votes to be on the front page within the first 30 minutes
12 votes if it has been posted for more than 30 minutes but less than an hour
13 votes if more than an hour but less than 1 1/2 hours
    14 votes if …

Of course, you can always set your minimum front page vote by going to
    My Account—>Settings—>Deals

    • Thanks for that.

It makes a bit more sense now.

It would be nice if this info could appear somewhere in the Wiki or on a "sticky" as suggested by another member.

      • It's in the help

        • Yes, I found this help item by searching, however it mentions the 20 vote requirement and hints there are other ways to get to the front page. I wanted to know what the other ways were. I'd seen a couple of entries last night get to the front page before getting 20 votes.

I wish there was an option to filter out e-books from coming up on the home page once i have logged in.

Agreed. The home page is spammed with E-book "deals" almost every hour.

      • Currently, you can use the Hide from Listing link which will hide all deals from a store e.g. Amazon. Just go to any ebook deal and click the link there. Unfortunately, since Kindle ebooks and Amazon products share the same domain, they will both be blocked.

    • One thing that we pushed out this morning is automatically moving Kindle eBooks into a different store, i.e.

read.amazon.com is actually the Amazon Cloud Reader site for you to read your Kindle books on the browser. However now you can hide deals from that domain so they don't appear in your new deals list.

      • Thanks worked like a charm, got rid of all the phone apps and e-books.

I will pass on the news to my mates that use OzBargain.com
