Lightweight travel laptop with DVD drive

I'm looking for a laptop for the train that has a DVD drive, is smallish and light and runs Win7.

Anyone know of any models? I've been looking but most don't have an optical/DVD drive.

Laptop is for an over 60yr old lady (if this helps narrow things down.)

TIA!

  • Get an ultrabook and a portable DVD drive! That way, you can still enjoy lightweight and be able to carry the drive in a small pouch when needed. :)

  • I don't think that would work for her - it would be too much carrying an extra thing and having to plug it in.

Ultrabook would be ideal, but she would need a DVD drive built in, otherwise I probably will end up doing tech support every other day :(

  • My wife has a Lenovo ThinkPad S430 and it's great.

    • 1.8kg (not exactly ultrabook-light, but light-enough for laptop at this size)
    • DVD RW built in
    • 14.1" 1600x900 display
    • Ivy Bridge i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, etc…

The only problem is that it's no longer sold on Lenovo's website. You might also want to look at T430s, but it's a lot more expensive.

    • Ah - should have read that last line…couldn't find any for sale.

T430's are a bit pricey - looking at sub 1500

  • You want a Vaio S 13"

They are at clearance prices now and are compatible with a Slate battery to double the battery life.
