  • I believe the weight is wrong, shouldn't it be around 1.6kg?

Maybe the 13" model is 1.2?

EDIT: The screen size is also 15" not 15.6" as you have in the specs

    • @kearnsy

Yes you are correct, it has now been adjusted. Thank you.

      • being pedantic I know,

but it is slightly over 1.6kg not under…to be precise it is 1.65kg (3.64lbs)

  • Someone has already commented on the weight.

  • I'd buy it at this price, if I didn't already have the I7 model already :)

  • +2

    Awesome 1600x900 resolution

1600x900 should not be described as an awesome resolution
If it was 2560x1440 then you could describe it as awesome.

  • What would be the key differences (other than price) between this and a similar notebook/ultrabook with the new 4th generation Intel processor?

    • +1

      Performance will be similar.
Battery Life is the main advantage of the Haswell processors (4th Gen Proc).

I think the integrated video card is also slightly better on the Haswell Processors.

      • @lplau

Yes performance is similar, but i don't think the battery life will be that much more of an advantage since my Samsung Ultrabook already achieves 6-7 Hours anyway. For the price difference you pay compared to this and the new 4th Gen Processors, i wouldn't say its worth it in my honest opinion.

        • yes you might get 6-7hr with 3rd gen, but 4th gen seems to give an extra 3-4 hours runtime, so imagine how much longer this would run with a 4th gen cpu! i don't get how Intel did it, i mean 3rd gen ULV is 17w TDP but 4th gen is 15w TDP, 2W difference wouldn't account for the big leap in battery life!

        • The haswell CPU goes to sleep whenever there is no activity and can resume from that state quicker.

    • There is no equivalent in a 4th Generation to the Samsung Series 9 15". Well none that I would consider anywhere close to ultra book weight. This Samsung is really in a league of its own IMO.

      • @kearnsy

Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself.

    • In terms of the Series 9 / Ativ Book 9 models:
This is an older Ivy Bridge model - the latest ones have a 1920 x 1080 resolution, and the even newer Haswell-based Ativ Book 9+ (to be released) has a 3200 x 1800 resolution, and about the same, if not better battery life (depending on how much the screen consumes). The regular Ativ Book 9's have yet to updated to Haswell, though, so that would be worth waiting for (better battery life and GPU performance than current regular models).

      • The Book 9 Plus is 1399 USD on amazon.com and bhphotovideo.com…

        • Yeah… it'll be interesting to see how outrageous the price will be under the Australia Tax. The US$1400 isn't that terrible of a price, though, for one of the best (if not the best) displays on a notebook anywhere and an extremely thin profile.

      • I believe you are referring to the 13" model, there is no equivalent in the 15" series with a 4th generation intel CPU currently. Which would the newer model to the one the OP listing.

Hopefully the 15" will get a cpu refresh as well as the increased in resolution at some point.

        • I wasn't very clear - I didn't mean to imply that the 15" had received an update, I was speaking of the Ativ book line generally, agnostic of size. You're right, these specs are the 'latest' for the 15" model. Apologies - my fault for trying to multitask.

  • +1

FYI: The 15" models you can also upgrade the SSD (msata) and also upgrade the ram. I have a 512Gb MSATA and 16GB of ram in mine.

    • How easy is it to upgrade (increase) the SSD and the RAM for a technologically-challenged ol' fart?

      • Remove all the screws on the bottom, it removes the entire base without too much effort. There you will see the msata and ram slots, it is pretty easy to remove and replace them.

Any chance to get an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro edition?

    • @saneo

Unfortunately, we don't have any more Windows 8 Professional software upgrades available, but i believe it is available on the Microsoft website for about $100.

    • Protip for anyone selling new (windows) computers: Win 8 Pro (downgrade rights to win7) or win7

  • Quick Review for anyone interested, I bought a 15' i7 version of this ultrabook last year through click frenzy for around $1400 amazing price at that time and I've had 6 month use before moving to something else.
This Laptop is brilliant at looks , display , battery life and functioning. The biggest shocker is that touchpad which after months of ignoring I finally accepted that it was really bad at gestures or anything which needs two fingers nd over…

    • @niksrulz

I haven't experienced this kind of problem before with mine. Have you consulted Samsung regarding this issue?

  • I am very interested in this as a laptop for my mum back in the UK. Anyone know whether Samsung offer a global warranty?

    • @moflare

Thank you for the heads-up, now edited.

  • Hey, Why is this not as the price shown? it says 1099. Is there any possible ways to upgrade the Ram to 8Gb at least?

    • The coupon code brings it down to $899. It's quite clearly indicated at the top of this page, and on the order page itself - not sure how you missed it.

      • Haha, Sorry My mistake, Was at work, and briefly scroll thru.
Is there any way to increase the Ram? Im very keen in getting if there are any extra upgrades ^^

  • I am planning to buy a laptop for my brother overseas, and planning to send it with a friend who is going there soon. Would it matter to if the invoice is in my name for my friend to get the GST/tax at the airport?

  • Bought this one yesterday. First impression is great.
