T-hotel. You will not regret it. Transport is very easy by their free morning shuttle and home by bus. This place absolutely made our holiday. They bent over backwards to please, left new toys for our Son each night, made fantastic food. There was a TV over the bathtub too! Easily the best value accommodation in HK. Read tripadvisor reviews.

    • I am also looking for accommodation in Hong Kong in early November and after a bit of research I'm also interested in the T Hotel but couldn't seem to find much info on pricing and booking. Another one I'm considering is the Langham hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

  • The Mira Hotel

  • The Langham in TST is certainly great in terms of service + location. You're smack down in the shopping district and tourist attractions. I don't mean to pry but would you need transfers, car service while you're there? I know a guy… actually, he's my uncle. Haha! And I could probably get you a decent price compared to what they charge online. (This is all coming from a Hong Kong local now in Melbourne, btw!)

    • Thanks I will look it up now.

  • After a bit of research, Novotel around Hong Kong (The Tung Chung, Citygate one is my favorite) are pretty alright in terms of pricing. It really depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you're able to let me know, I can probably help out a bit more. But since you're looking for hotels that are at least 4 stars, I'm guessing price isn't that much of a big deal?

Off the top of my head some good ones are:
Langham, either Mong Kok or Tsim Sha Tsui
    Novotel - $150-300/night
OVOLO hotels are cool too because they're a bit bigger than normal hotels because they also double as serviced apartments for long-term stays - Around $200/night
I'd say the hotel at Disneyland would be ideal for a family (assuming you've got young kids) If you go for the packages that include breakfasts and tickets to the theme park, the experience is pretty cool. Check out some packages here: http://park.hongkongdisneyland.com/hkdl/en_US/special/listin…

Unless you will be cabbing everywhere (realtively expensive), the underground rail (MTR) is the most efficient and cheapest way to get around. In the main stations like Causeway Bay (CWB) and Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), it's a 5 mins walk from the train to the street entry/exit so last thing you want after being out all day or carrying bags of shopping, is 5 min walk to out of the the MTR station and another 5 mins walk to your hotel, especially with young kids. Do Google map of say Holiday Inn Golden Mile TST and maximise the zoom. All the extrances are marked with a green Exit symbol but the train platform is marked with the red (pitch fork & mirrior image) symbol. So the MTR entrance for this hotel is just outside the lobby on Moody rd (Exit G) and then a few min walk to the train.

If your main objective of your trip is shopping & sight seeing, it's really TST and CWB and I would recommend:

Holiday Inn Golden Mile - more expensive but MTR entrance right outside, Nathan Rd is full of shops and all the attractions in TST and one of the few hotels with two queens beds room (ideal for family of 4). Stayed a couple times and good friendly service. One trip, wife got ill and the the manager personally drive us to a doctor, stayed with us, drove us back and followed up with a call to us the next day!

Metropark in Causeway Bay - it's called CWB but it's only a 2 min walk to the Tin Hau station. Great view from 6th flr up, supermarket on the way to the MTR and Victoria Park is 5 mins away if you want to go for a jog or let the kids play. Last time we stayed it included free internet, not sure about now. L'hotel also received good review and actually closer to MTR but no free internet.

There's plenty of good hotels but check out the location (google map incl street view to check what kind of restaurants/shops nearby) and read reviews. Enjoy.

    • Thank you hadn't even thought of using street view. Really want accommodation close to the MTR but quite central to TST or Mongkok as want to do all the usual touristy things like The Buddha, Disneyland, night markets, The Peak and the water park.

  • The Salisbury - YMCA. right next to The Peninsula, same amazing harbour views, 1/5th of the price.

  • My family and I travel to HK every 12-18 months. We have 2 kids, a 11 y.o. and a 8 y.o. My advice is (depends on the age/size of the kids), all stay in one 5-star hotel room. As 5-stars hotel rooms are generally bigger, the twin rooms are usually twin double beds not twin single beds.

To put it in simple term: One standard/basic 5-star room is cheaper two standard/basic 4 stars rooms. (or at least very similar price) One standard 5 star room is also cheaper than a suite/family room in a 4 star hotel

We have stayed at the Island Shangri-la, Conrad, Marriot and the Four Seasons, all 5 stars, all in Central / Admiralty area (HK Island), right above MTR station, shopping centres. We never have any problem with the kids.

Problem with cheaper 4 stars hotel: 1. It’s impossible to squeeze 4 people in the room, and 2, even if you’re prepare to sleep like sardines in a can, the hotel won’t let you, you need to pay extra.

Also, the swimming pool is a life saver for parents with kids. Kids (including mine) wants to/need to have a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city. A quick splash in the pool means happy kids. Not that many 4 stars hotel have (nice) swimming pool.

Above all, just think of all the goodies you get at a 5-star hotel … we stayed at the Island Shangri-la (Admiralty) in March this year, we have kids size bath robes and sleepers, two sets of l’occitane toiletries every day, 8 bottles of water everyday (can’t drink tap water in HK), the kids even get milk and cookies every night!

I usually book the hotel room directly on the web, they usually have a ‘web price’

Wherever you choose, anywhere is good as long as there’s a MTR station nearby. I like Admiralty area, only takes 10 mins (MTR) to TST, 15mins to Mongkok. And you can take the tram to Causeway Bay and Central (only AUD 30cents!)

Another advice, Ocean Park is a lot better (and cheaper) than Disneyland.

    Have fun in HK.

  • Thanks NancyCat I must admit I hadn't thought of that. I will get on now and see what I can find. Yes I agree that a pool is a must so I will look at your suggested hotels. Many thanks.

  • After a bit of research, my family of 2 adults & 2 children have just booked the following for the upcoming Sept school holidays;

2 nights at the SkyCity Marriott $443 (1 room, 2 Double beds, pool & free shuttle to Disneyland)
4 nights at the Cosmopolitan Hotel $952 (1 room, 2 Queen beds & breakfasts, public pool 10 mins walk from hotel & free shuttle to Ocean Park)
3 nights at the Royal Plaza Hotel $830 (1 room, 2 Queen beds, pool & close to street markets)

Hotel prices above are inclusive of service charges (10 to 15%).

We're also staying a couple of nights at the Galaxy Hotel (has wave pool & free mini bar) in Macau.

  • you've already booked but I'd recommend Panda hotel.

they have good size family rooms. lounge + 2 bedrooms (1 king bed + 2 singles). the one iI was in had been very recently renovated.

relatively inexpensive, close to MTR. 3 storey shopping mall downstairs (including AOEN supermarket).

  • Thanks for your recommendation, something to keep in mind for next time. I had some difficulties securing rooms for Oct 1 to 3 because of the Chinese National Day holidays.
