Which is a Decent Portable Radio for Sporting Events

Hi guys,

I have bought, over the last couple of years about 4 different portable radios for the purpose of listening to sporting games (AFL and Cricket mainly) and each one is not worth a cent.

I bought a Sony, Panasonic, Philips and also one of those crappy ones you buy at the Merchandise store at the ground. They were all crap (to put it mildly.

What brand should I get, what model. Also should I go for a portable digital radio? Money is not an issue for me so long as I get something that actually works.

Thanks guys.

Don't go digital, there is a 7-9 second delay which is pretty much unbearable for live sports. Sony make a really good one but it is on the pricey side. I guess maybe it's worth it if your sick of buying crap ones that are, well, crap.

  • Not sure which Sony one you tried already but this one has never let me down. Ear plugs only. Unlike the other one mentioned.

  • What is the issue you are having? Do you mean you want to pick up the TV commentary broadcast over those terrible one-ear sets?
Sony, Panasonic and Philips are all reputable brands that should be producing well performing radios.
I have used a Sony for years with good results, but it just does AM/FM:
