    • I have a Soniq 32" that I bought brand new for about $220 a few months ago. Can't fault it so far.

  • +3

last week i directly contacted Soniq Reseller/Repairer (Quatius Aust Pty Ltd) in regards to the best offer they can give me for a refurbished 42" LCD. After few exchanges of emails they finally gave me their best offer for Soniq L42V11A and that was incredibly low price. I have received my 42" LCD today and it came with 3 months warranty and looks new. Only minor scuff marks around the edges.

Following is the email reply by Quatius Aust Pty Ltd respresentative as proof

"We discussed with our supervisor regarding the discount and we can offer you L42V11A for $ 100.00 + $ 88.00 for shipping. All to gather it will be $ 188.00 and this will our final offer that we can offer. Yes, there will be a warranty for 3 months. You do not need any document for that, just provide us the reference number 2118 and that would be al-right"

    • Was that a one off thing or can we all send an email request through too?

      • i dont know about it. i just called them and they asked me to send an email request.

      • Hi all, please note that this a once off offer and is available for existing customers for their replacement TV only.

As for our other refurbished stock, we have a bargain corner at our office and customers can come down to look at the units and see the imperfections for themselves before they purchase them.

          can this be shared again?

    • I thought companies are legally required to give 1 year warranty in aus..?

      • it has the std 1yr but i'm sure they'll stitch you up with an extended for $49…

      • I can't find anything that says about minimum 1 year.
However there is a expected "life time" of the product type warranty.

Which is hard to argue in this case, because you are buying a 42" tv for $200, you can't really argue that it is supposed to last 2-5years.

Since it is generally perceived as cheaper = faster to break.

      • Warranty is defined by the manufacturer, this should be one of your decisions. Its the industry standard to offer 1 year but its completely up to the manufacturer to decide this, the screens sold for $188 are not new, they are refurbished.

    • ..

      • tried this for the V12A an authorization required

    • +1

I spoke to them, they pretty much told me to go away.

  • +1

I don't know if this is a silly question or not, but does this have a built in HD Tuner?

    • +5

Correct. The online ad states that it is 'Full HD', which will more or less mean an HD Tuner. This is confirmed by the fact that it has PVR, as well as digital EPG (electronic program guide)

  • Was looking for a cheap TV to go with my tvpad and this came up. Thanks OP.

i am moving from a furnished place to an unfurnished place this weekend and was looking for a cheap big tv

  • -1

Does anyone have the dimensions of this TV?

  • Thanks OP.

Just purchased one for the GF in NT. Been on the look out for quite sometime for something cheap!

    • +6

You've been looking for a cheap GF in the NT?

      • Nothings cheap up here

  • any more data on this? e.g. other inputs. Can't find info anywhere!

  • Maybe I should have posted this deal last week but got a bit lazy. At that time the L42D11A was also in stock for the same price, which is an older 2011 LCD model but with passive 3D. Got mine delivered Tuesday and it was the best $127 I ever spent after applyng the $150 worth of JB Hifi giftcards from coke rewards earlier.

Do I already have a TV? Yes
Do I need another TV? No
    Did I buy one? Yes

  • anyone find the dimensions anywhere? I have a feeling this unit would have a thick depth

BEWARE, Soniq seems to have some serious quality control issues. Our last 2 Soniqs have been complete disasters. Same thing has happened - the TV fails then the repair is a disaster, JBHIFI gives back the money and I end up with a name brand TV - too bad all the time I wasted returning dud TVs. With the last one, an L42D11A, it broke down, was repaired, broke down again, replacement REFURBISHED one was sent from Soniq. The replacement REFURBISHED tv lasted for one use only! It was a dead parrot the next morning! I took it straight back to JBHIFI and couldn't believe how quickly the Manager said "we will give you a gift card for the original purchase price - I added some more money and got a Samsung.
TIP: if you don't live near a JBHIFI or you have better things to do than worry about repairs then don't buy a Soniq. No wonder Soniq have a supply of "refurbished" TVs.

    • +2

Too true, same experience. It's a warning sign already that JB would have "stock" of refurbished TV's.

"Nothings wrong with them (now), the warranty is good (until the unit fails again)".

      • +1

I have a 42" soniq in my spare room, it has not failed (2 years old), that being said i would definitely not buy one for a main room, picture & build quality are terrible, images lag heaps for sports.

        • Would a set top box fix this lag issue?

  • Even so, at this price it's worth the risk. Not to mention that you're covered by statutory Australian warranties so even if it does fail, you're covered. Check out for example: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-06-07/broken-but-out-of-warr…

    • +1

Just keep in mind its a 42" TV that you will cart back and forth if things go wrong - can't exactly fit in your pocket like a phone or tablet.

Risk is subjective to the individual in the end, so up to individuals to assess their time and energy for the $$$ requested.

      • +1

A 42inch TV can fit in most cars… when I moved last year most of it was done in my mums Barina. I managed to move my 51inch Samsung Plasma… it barely fit in the backseat, but it did fit. My 40inch LCD fit quiet easily.

It's not ideal… but it's possible for people to get these TV's back on the chance it does break even in a normal car. Anyone with a station wagon, ute, van etc. would be able to fit the TV in quiet easily. Not as easy as portable devices… but easy enough to snap up a bargain like this.

  • anyone else getting JBhifi error when clicking on the link?
    Or has this promo expired?

    Cheers.

    • I'm still able to add to cart

      • my bad, im getting country error since im accessing jbhifi online in Vietnam! lol

anyone know how I can get around this?

        • A VPN?

  • man I misread this as "Sony" and got all excited for a moment…not buying a Soniq TV ever again though.

  • I really don't need another tv but I'm really tempted (despite my dwindling bank account). I just bought another 24" for my desktop (2 screens now) and I can't help but imagining a 42" as well to watch movies on and play splitscreen games…

Can anyone comment on the quality of it? It doesn't seem to display the refresh rate on the site which worries me a bit.

    • +2

Won't be very good quality. Soniq is very low end stuff.

      • Sorry, am I wrong? If I am then let me know and I will retract my statement, don't just aimlessly neg me :S

        • I'm guessing the neg vote was for your speculative comment rather than the negative tone of the comment.

'Speculation' is not equivalent to 'Experience', unless you have experience of the TVin question, which is not evident in your comment.

For example, I might comment that this particular TV would be only good for 'cheap hotel rooms' or ikea static showroom display rather than for watching movies or playing games. I might get a neg for that :)

        • +1

Fair enough. I state that Soniq is not good quality based on the numerous accounts I have read from various forums. I have not seen it for myself so YMMV.

  • +1

i used a 32inch soniq for gaming and it was a shocker, i went for a 27inch(2550 x 1440) catleap instead, the quality difference is ridiculously different.

    • Is there a big difference going from 1080p to 1440? And do most games even support that resolution? I'd imagine you'd need a fairly decent graphics card to run anything at that res.

Its awesome that there screens at that res aren't that uncommon any more. I can't wait until the day when 4k is standard…

      • When the screen becomes bigger it becomes more apparent, depending on how close you sit to it. But the TV screens are real crap for text etc, though better on video, but even then there's a massive difference in colour, vibrancy etc etc.

The catleap screen is just gorgeous, no point in getting a TV for gaming is what I mean overall, go for monitors.

It'd probably be ok for movies am sure.

  • thanks bought one today for a friend.

  • I bought mine ———> the one below 3 years ago. Model L42S10A Full HD100mhz
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31647

Has never missed a beat and picture qaulity is still very good.
I took out 4 years extended warranty (so total of 5 years) for a peace of mind.
I spent $700 all up and I thought it was a bargain.

  • +1

Mine has arrived. It is light and cheap but very bright and clear. I am waiting for my 2 catleaps to arrive for comparison.

    • Thanks for the update :)

      • arrived yesterday. great value! works fine and with android stick. With Popcorn Hour screen just flashes, odd.

        • no, its the old Digitech HDMI switch using pre 1.4 cables.

Am surprised at the quality of the low resolution source .. even AV stuff!
Those internal speakers vibrate a bit on upper bass.

  • received just now. yet to open.

  • more tv's in-stock, buy buy buy!!

  • I'm guessing the warranty on these TV's will be 12 months? Please respond.

    • +1

Fyi Op is not a rep for soniq

      • i realized this, i was asking if anyone knew..

        • ok, SONIQ Australia knows.

  • +1

got my tv today, no complaints, channels that are not full hd look crap because they aren't full hd, but the ones that are 1080p look great, no complaints here and the sound is loud enough.. video play back from a usb stick, sound was really low but i think thats because the video file was like that, overall, good purchase, the tv i got didn't have any scratches on it, completely flawless.

  • -1

Got mine today, it makes a loud buzzing noise. Not sure if this standard though, I think it has something to do with the Power Saving Mode as it changes loudness depending on which I select. Cannot turn it off though, will call JB tomorrow for an exchange.

    • And so it begins…..

  • Got one and it arrived with a cracked screen., sigh. Sent it back and will see if I can get another one. Bloody couriers.

  • Similar deal, might be a newer model.
