Rediculously cheap monitor with HDMI

Looking for a cheap 2nd hand monitor to run a CCTV setup, just something small and basic, but it needs HDMI.
I'm capable enough to search gumtree myself but finding one with HDMI has proven tricky.
Can anyone offer any advice here?
I just seen you can get the DVI-HDMI adaptors. Are they reliable?? If so they may prove the way to go with a 20$ used monitor and a 3$ adaptor I'd be laughing..
Anything I need to watch out for?

    DVI-HDMI adapter is perfectly reliable..
They're passive (ie don't require power and a microchip to convert anything), but be aware that you wont get Audio.. (shouldn't be a problem)

    • sweet thanks.

    • This. Just be careful though, they adapt DVI-D, not DVI-I (look up the difference in wikipedia).

Also many of them have the DVI-A pins even though they are not used, where most DVI monitors don't have the sockets. The solution is to just cut the pins out, it works fine.

Edit: it should also be mentioned that the monitor needs to support whatever signal is coming over the HDMI link (ie: 1080p/whatever).

      • If he's going Camera->HDMI->DVI->Monitor there is no concern over losing analogue signal, cause there never was an analogue signal!

        • Sure, but most of the adaptors I have seen have all the DVI pins, so it won't physically fit in a DVI-D monitor (which most are). Works fine if you cut the pins off.
