Upgrade To Business Class for $120

Hi All,

I'm flying to New Zealand with Emirates on Friday (thanks to the $99 deal posted earlier this year).

I got an email asking if id like to upgrade myself and my partner to business class for $120AUD each, each way.

i'm wondering if that is a good deal? if it's worth it for a 4 hour flight? is it common for emirates to do that? s it likely that if i don't accept i may get a complimentary upgrade to business anyway as they could have over booked economy?

hmm what's your thoughts….

  • $21 more ?

  • no no sorry - an extra $120 on top of the $99 i have already paid for the flight

  • might be worth it if its the a380 but am not sure if emirates have started the a380 to auck yet. if you are not sure, just go 1 way business, 1 way economy.
emirates economy is well above avg economy anyway, although some say its dropped off.

by the way - the $99 deal you got -was that including taxes?

  • Emirates Business Class is very nice but they have offered it before to passengers at the gate as a complimentary upgrade.

  • I reckon I would've be really tempted to accept (and pay) for the upgrade.

I've never been the one that would pay double or triple for business class when I fly. To me it's ridiculous amount to pay and I sure can pull up with economic class. To me the destination is where I want to go, as to how I get there? I don't really care.

I know it is more than double of what you've paid for your flight but it's only $120. I think I would try it out.

  • You should check if they are offering free airport transfers on this deal. Emirates give Business Class passengers chauffered rides to & from the airport, if you are in the city. I imagine they will also offer it in Auckland (I know they do in Christchurch). Could be well worth it depending on where you live, & if you are staying in Akld.

  • I'm going in 2 weeks - if you do accept please update us here on the experience including if you get a limo. Hopefully I will get an offer as well.

  • Well I couldn't resist the opportunity to fly business class - i know it's only a short journey— but for $120 it's a luxury i most likely won't experience again.

What sold it for me was their chauffeur service (i know it's meant to be excluded with this deal) but i rang emirates and they have said it's all fine. so a limo company is picking my partner & I up and taking us to the airport — then someone is meeting us at the other end and driving us to our hotel.

This time tomorrow it will all be over, so yes i will definitely update you all

Just to let you all know- my $120 was very well spent

business class is definitely the way to fly— in fact i'm not sure i'll ever be able to fly in economy again.

the cheuffeur car/driver were excellent — right on time and picked up by a limo & $240,000 car (to and from airport)

    then express check-in

then straight up to the emirates lounge —wow — talk about over the top; but a great experience all the same. open bar including $100 campagne etc buffet hot food, juices, smoothies, chocolates, cakes, cheeses etc. the business centre with computer/internet/phones; massage chairs & just pleasant surroundings.

then as soon as you get on board fantastic service — great staff — always have a drink/cocktail in hand— terrific food & as much of it as you like.

as for the seats — perfect! our seats had massage built in & could lay out flat!

all in all was $120 well spent – to get to your destination and not feel wrecked after a flight, is in my opinion well worth it!
(so much in fact we have opted to upgrade our flight home too!)

    • 5 days to go and no email yet - here's hoping - thanks for the wonderful update

  • wow, i might want to upgrade to business class too next time.

  • Thanks for following up on the experience Car-la-la

    Fingers crossed for you ozpete!

just thought i'd update a little further (perhaps call it a brag)

but on the way home we got an email offer again to upgrade from economy to business — it was in NZD this time so a little cheaper so we thought hell yeh!

organized the chauffeur service again — phoned emirates and they organised everything.

then my partner and i were enjoying terrific food & expensive drinks in the emirates lounge at emirates airport when they paged our names and another male over the loud speaker to go to the front desk. our initial thought was that our flight was delayed.

we were pleasantly surprised when we got to the desk and they told us that if we accept they'd be honoured to upgrade us to first class free of charge!!!!!

    woo hooo

was as awesome as one would imagine first class to be — lots of room — fantastic service — great food, lobster on the menu… we drank $300 champagne etc etc

big thumbs up to emirates & i'd recommend them and the upgrade to everyone!

(btw i'm not looking forward to flying in air asia economy later this year after my first class experience haha)

    • Wow… that's great! I can't wait for such an experience (at the same price) myself! Good for you!

    • Been back a week. just read this - wow thats even better - but no upgrade for me - even though on both flights there was plenty of BC seats. That said the service was excellent even in economy, so I wasnt unhappy. BUT I do envy your good fortune. Thanks for sharing

  • I took AirAsia in February 2009 and it was not so good. The recline button on the seat is FAKE! Try it and see if it even budge a centimetre.

    Tip:

    1. Bring a blanket (fleece the best) if you did not purchase the toiletry bag
    2. Bring your ipod/laptop, device that charge with USB, as there is a plug on the seat. So download lots of podcast n videos to entertain yourself!
    3. Prepare a fair walk to/from aircraft (they don't park near the hall!) So limit your hand carry weight.

I'm flying again with them in May 2009. Yeah, cheap flights! Hard to say no! Save the money for shopping!

  • you indeed are a lucky lady car-la-lar. i flew to tasmania on virgin and had to pay $3 for pringles. i asked for a glass of water, and they presented me with a menu. Water was like $2.50. What a rip! I think next time I will row my boat.
