Fantastic deal! We bought this some years ago and it one of the best purchases we have ever made. At this price, go out and grab it!

  • Bought it from a January post for A$92 from Amazon UK and thought it a great deal then, although that was the hardcover.
Terrific! Get it if you can.

  • Awesome deal. Calvin and Hobbes - one of the greatest newspaper comics of all time.

  • is this hard cover?

    • -4

      No. Look at the photo.

    • Yes it is. It's three hardcover books, I've got them at home. They're big and are too hard to read, IMO

edit - just looked at the pic, obviously not the same edition i have, this one is 4 books.

Oh wow. I think my wife paid a couple of hundred for these a few years ago. Mrs MattyD isn't much of a bargain hunter :)

Simply awesome set, and one of the finest (and funniest, most thought provoking) comics ever made. Watterson was a genius.

awesome, only $109.98 once you factor in the Costco membership fee

  • +1

Is this price for members only? If so, does anyone know what it costs for non-members?

    • +3

non- members dont get access to these prices. You cant even gain access pass doors.

      • Ahh really? Ok thanks for clearing that up. I'm moving near that area soon anyway so might be worthwhile to join up.

        • It is.

        • They're opening up in the not too distant future in Caringbah and Casula as well which will be pretty awesome.

      • u can go in and look but if u wanna buy anything then u have to pay for the membership

  • +1

Please edit to show 'Membership required' bound to be ppl complaining about having to pay annual fee. If it goes against your morals you could join up purchase and then cancel for full refund on membership cost .

    • i dont know what is so much against morals when costco is obviously running within its licensing restrictions/regulations.

Would be a bit rich for someone to complain about 'memberships' then went on to circumvent said regulations. lol.

great for calvinists and hobbsiests as well

Great price. You have to admire Waterson, he could have made a shedload of money out of merchandising Calvin and Hobbes but refused to do it. You can only see Calvin and Hobbes in the comics and nowhere else.

  • Amazing. I already have a set (bought for ~$200 from Amazon years ago), but I might need another now!

    • Is it really so amazing that you need to consider buying an item you already own :p

      • I'm a C&H tragic. My current copy is already suffering from considerable wear and tear from being read so much :)

        • One for the archive cabinet.

        • +1

or straight to the pool room.

  • Would they have this at Costco Docklands?

    • I saw it at Costo Docklands about a fortnight ago. They didnt have a price listed, but it was on the end of the book table in the middle of the warehouse.

      • +1

They still have them. About 25 with $49.98 stickers. In fact, I'm at costco now.

  • I want that. But I live in Adelaide :(

    • +1

your time is coming April 2014 - Adelaide store to open…

      • Awesome! Cheers Bugman.

      • Noooooooo!!!!!!

        • :( pity they will be out by then

  • I want this so bad but I live in Brisbane :(

    • +2

your time is also coming Brisbane store to open later next year

      • +1

        so bugman, when's perth?
I dont want it. I NEED it.

  • +1

I have the complete pirate version in soft copy, now is the chance to finally give some payback by buying the original.

Thanks to the Awesome Genius Bill Watterson, his wikipedia page makes for interesting reading…

  • I want one as well. Can someone buy it for me and I come pick it up from them? Sydney that is.

    • Ohh,….

Me too.. an Ardent Calvin & Hobbes fan.

Can someone buy it for me and post it to Brisbane. Can pay you beforehand or you can put it on EBAY as a personal listing only.

      Thanks

      • won't you be better of just buying from the other book sellers, after you factor in all the extra hassle, + paypal fees etc..

Costco needs to hurry up and open some more Sydney stores. I've only been there once when it hasn't been heaving beyond comfort with people :(

I would be willing to buy for other OzB'ers but only really make the trip once a month so no guarantees I'd get there while it's stocked this price.
To be honest I have no doubt you'd be able to ask someone before they go in or sitting in the eating area (before the store entry) if they wouldn't mind buying it for you and you could chuck an extra $5 onto the price. If someone asked me that I wouldn't even ask for the extra…

  • I will go pick this up on Saturday - if anyone wants one let me know.

    • Can you for me please…

how do I pay you ? and most imp Can it be shipped to Brissy ?

      • …and me, if possible - same as abhi900 - shipped to Brisbane?

I so wish we had a Costco - I love Calvin and Hobbes!

    • Could you get me one too please.
I'll meet you outside Costco and pay ya cash.
      Let me know
      Cheers

  • Excellent deal, paid $200+ from Amazon2 years ago.

  • +3

Knowing Costco, I was surprised this didn't come in packs of 5 (5 box sets).

  • Truly awesome collection! I already own it, paid double that price, and that was still an absolute bargain.

  • DEFINITELY want one of these but alas, no Costco in Adelaide.

  • Bought one years ago (4-5?) internationally for 180+ dollars. Absolutely absolutely love Bill Watterson

  • Yes please!
    Calvin and Hobbes is amazing.

  • I have visions of OzBargainers standing outside Costco, asking people to purchase the book on their behalf!

  • No way of getting it over in Perth then unless someone kind wants to ship? :(

  • I don't mind buying a few but no idea how much shipping would be…I would need the 3kg post sachets at least!

Holy cow - just found the weight:
    6418g!!!!

  • Thanks OP !!!!
A friend bought it from COSTCO Melb,

Weekend is here, bye bye friends and family.
