Gift Suggestions?

Hello friends,

I was planning to buy gifts for my nephews and nieces and kids of other distant relatives too. The age range would be from 4-8 or so. Any suggestions for the same please? Oh, and they don't stay in Australia, so was kind of thinking to get some Australian souvenirs. Please suggest.

Also a couple of boys are around 8-12 years of age and I was thinking of getting an iPod each for them, but did not really want to go beyond 100$ apiece for it. Would you recommend buying from eBay or so? Any ideas on some inexpensive console or handheld games in that range pls?

TIA

My son is 7 and some of the birthday and Xmas presents I have bought him over the last few years are bikes, scooters, skateboard, boogie board, iPad mini, books, dvd's, magic kits, ninjago Lego, chima Lego, remote control helicopter.

My daughter is 4 and likes anything related to princesses, fairies, ballerinas and mermaids.

My best advice is to ask the parents what they are into.

  • Thanks Steve, you sure have bought a lot of stuff!

Any suggestions on some good online souvenirs too?

    • Would you consider "beach culture" type presents? Eg go on surf stitch website to buy boardshorts, rashies, wallets, t shirts etc.

      • umm not much of swimming and surfing sorts these kids are, thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Type your keywords into the search box at www.dx.com and knock yourself out.

But in particular, since you mentioned it:

Also check out the toys section.

Plenty of cheap mp3 (audio only) players: http://dx.com/c/consumer-electronics-199/mp3-players-101

    Also mp4 (audio + video) players: http://dx.com/c/consumer-electronics-199/mp4-players-102

    • Thanks mate, quite a collection, I thought all these handheld consoles from bygone era were extinct, but apparently I was wrong.
      BTW I liked https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-150349-iPod-Touch-2nd-Gen-8GB…
my only apprehension is whether 2nd gen will play the latest version of games? You see I am getting iPod touch more for the ios games rather than the music..

      Thanks

      • Aren't Apple up to 5th Gen Ipod now? Doubt the high end games will work. If I was given a second hand dinosaur iPod, I would probably just throw it under the bed.

  • There maybe a reason parents havent given their kids ipods

If I was a parent I think I would avoid giving kids an mp3 player, as its the most anti social technology as its so benign.

  • Might be wiser leaving giving technology to their parents. I have 2 boys who wld be constantly hooked onto iPods if we did not restrict their use.

,suggestions: Australian geographic shop. Sell puzzle games, science kits or building construction. They've got nano blocks which are like very small lego.

    Meccano is also another thing.

Australian souvenirs , if hey're boys one sort of baseball style cap with Aussie logo. Girls , I've bough the soft toys in a can from he Australa Geographic Shop.

  • For girls, maybe some jewelry, doesnt have to be expensive stuff. Lots of young teens love Diva. You can get them an ID bracelet or necklace with their name.
Or you could get something artsy, like watercolour pencil set.
