One person on Itinerary not able to make it.

Hi all, finally about to have a holiday to Sydney from Melbourne. Basically group of friends 5 of us but one of them pulled out at last minute, he knows he cant get his money back but he doesn't mind. Can I just turn up tomorrow and present itinerary minus the one person and say he couldn't make it or do I call them up first and tell them. I ideally just want to turn up and say that one of em could not make it.Flying with Jetstar.

Thoughts?

  • I can't see why it's a problem. there'll just be a spare seat on the plane for someone else.

    • Wasn't sure if it was a problem, I haven't travelled for a while so don't know what the standard thing to do in such a situation is. If it isn't a problem then I guess I am fine, thanks for that.

  • They would prefer you advise them in advance, as they can they re-sell the ticket to someone else. However you are under no obligation to do so. Frankly it is payback for them having such restrictive ticket conditions when it comes to refunds / changing the date / changing the passenger name.

    WHY DON'T YOU CALL JETSTAR?????????

  • I agree, just turn up as if it were a last minute cancellation. Don't call Jetstar unless under extreme circumstances.

I'm not 100% sure how Jetstar's reservation system works but with some airlines if a person doesn't show up for a flight the rest of the itinerary is cancelled. I think it would be a good idea to call them just in case.

Jetstar starter fares are non-refundable. You are entitled to a date change however, so if your friend is willing to pay the transfer fee and fare difference, he may hang on to his ticket for travel some time in the future.

    Let us know the outcome.

No need to call…each person will get their own boarding pass. Or you can use web checkin, sms checkin or kiosk check-in. I usually use web checkin.

  • If there's a policy of getting a credit towards future flights by cancelling that one ticket, go for it. Otherwise, probably just hold onto it

  • Few months back, when I traveled on JETSTAR one my mates cancelled just few hours before the flights. We just mentioned at check-in and it was fine. Unless you are claiming refund, it should be fine.

  • Yer, I called em up and they said its just regarded as a no show but should be no problems checking in. Thanks for all the comments :D

  • Virgin were fine with same situation

  • You haven't got another mate who wants to go in his place?

They don't check ids on domestic flights. So, you can easily take somebody else. Just use web check in for the flights, print the boarding pass and go straight to the gate. They only scan the boarding pass and let you on the flight. Have travelled a lot lately on the domestic circuit and not even once I was asked for Id.

    • Even if you check in at the counter they don't check IDs, but not worth taking the risk.

    • Yer, they didn't check on the way back…what are the potential pitfalls of doing that though…perhaps they may check at the boarding gate? Am intrigued but not willing to do so, prefer to avoid trouble where I can.

  • Hey mate can i ask when you're flying over and back? I'd look into purchasing this extra ticket from you..

    Cheers,

Think your friend is going to be entitled to claim the "taxes" back from Jetstar. Only the ticket is non refundable. They claim the taxes are applied by the govt…. I got 35% of the fare back from Singapore Airlines on a full non refundable ticket when I had to cancel a flight due to some unavoidable circumstances.

    • It's alright, my friend doesn't mind, ticket we got was pretty cheap but thanks, good to know just in case i need it in the future. Cheers!
