I'm having trouble finding a part time job or casual position in Melbourne, was wondering where is a good place to work at as a first casual job. Also need helping on how to write a cover letter. Was thinking about either hoyts or any other retail store, trying to avoid fast food.

i would avoid fast food too but cafes would be a great learning experience. Retail isn't too much better than fast food from what I hear. Admin work perhaps? Otherwise you are young and should enjoy it! You got a couple of years before you need to really work to get ahead of the curb.
Apply everywhere and KEEP applying everywhere, don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. You're not going to really like your job so it doesn't matter what it is; as long as you get paid.
