Hotels USA LA - Costa Mesa area

I'm looking for some help please when visiting Los Angeles next May.
I'm looking for a nice hotel under 200 dollars per night in the Costa Mesa area that is handy to Newport Beach.
I have read a lot of reviews on trip advisor etc.& still cannot decide as its a 10 day stay so I want to get it right, but the problem is when reading the reviews, nearly all have negative reviews, like paper thin walls ,noisy patrons next door or smell of smoke in a non-smoke room. I like hotels that are quiet, have breakfast supplied ,clean & are quite modern, also I don't want to be on a freeway stuck where you need a car for transportation—- somewhere that I can walk around ,do some shopping & visit Malls, I know some [a few] have shuttle buses for short trips, this would be okay- anyway any suggestions would be great
thanks in advance
Rick

Try AirBnb. You can get a whole apartment for around $120/night. Much more convenient, as you can cook your own meals, and just have much more space in general than you would in a hotel room.

Inbox me your email address, and I can send you a $25 off referral

    • Good advice. Try vrbo.com too, it's very popular in the US.

      • Thanks undercut & donga , I don't know if that's for me though, especially if the host is nearby ,I will have a look through ,thank you for this alternative

It's certainly not for everyone. Most of the time if you rent a whole apartment or hotel room the owner is not anywhere nearby. They just meet you to hand over the keys and normally own the apartment as an investment property. I stayed at Signatures at MGM Grand in Vegas like this and only saw the owner once. The main difference between booking like this or direct with the hotel is that there is no daily roomkeeping/cleaning but I didn't mind keeping the same towels, etc. for the duration of my stay.

        • OK we don't mind that either, as we are not lazy & can hang out towels i'll look more over the weekend, it's a good option though
          cheers

  • Hi rickxs

I might be able to help you out- my parents have timeshare that can be used all around the world There are a couple of places availabile I think near where you are going that are availabile in May. They are The Plaza Resort and Spa or the Vista Mirage Resort - they can not use all the points/accomodation that they get each year and neither can I so I sell it for them. A week in say one of the places could cost you about $600-700 depending on the time and how big you want it.

Send me a PM if you would like to know more.

    Thanks teresa

  • Teresa they look to be both in palm springs 95 miles away [90 mins] , I could be wrong

    • Hi Rickxs
