Auspost price hikes for Registered Post, International Greeting Cards, Postcards, Aerogrammes from Oct 7

Sigh, another price increase after the recent one.

Registered Post price increase will hurt small business esp. ebay and other online sellers.

The reason given by Auspost:

Like many businesses, we're operating in a challenging economic environment with increasing costs, particularly around raw materials, delivery, transport and energy. To ensure our business is self-sustaining, we are reducing operating costs, improving network efficiencies, adjusting prices to recover our true costs, and enhancing our products.

Price Hikes > Auspost customers find private couriers > Australia Post lose money, price hike to make up > More eBayers find more couriers and it keeps going….

Can't be doing that bad though taking out a 51% stake in Startrack Express.

  • not again…

My favourite personal gripe about the AU post?

Their supposed "tracking" that isn't even tracking —- at all. I actually wrote & then spoke to a rep about it. I said, "it isn't tracking if all you see is a package's acceptance & then (hours after delivery) that it's delivered". THAT, is called a delivery receipt. I tell you, it's an outright scam…Most of the time, people don't realize that they can't actually track the package.

    2nd complaint?

Why are new renters somehow responsible for the past tenants mail? I moved, paid my forwarding fee. The last tenants at the new place didn't- so I'm supposed to forever write "RTS" & deliver it back to the AU post??? WTF? How is this right? I think that they need to find a way to redirect it before it gets to me.

    End of rant.

Totally agree with your first comment. They lost an item that I sent. All they can say is they received the item at the local post office, and it got lost somewhere as they have no record of it being delivered (interstate). No compensation other than a postal note refunding the postage.

I mean why would I have the item tracked, except that I believe that it would mean they would know where it went missing - so that their thieving employees might think twice about knocking parcels off as it would be likely they would investigate areas in the chain that constantly showed tracking stopped.

So all those who advocate Telstra back in government hands gotta think, that Aust post is another "asset" for Australian bureaucrats, as its not an asset for the nation.

Forget fixing the NBN. Fix Australia post and we may see Australian businesses get some competitive edge back

    • Agree with ilostnemo below, just chuck it in the bin.

  • If the last tenant, didn't pay for a redirection, he doesn't want his mail, I'd bin it.

    • apparently even with Auspost $19/mth mail forwarding, some mail still goes goes back to old address.

on a separate note, think it's illegal to bin others' mail. rofl

    • i received a $10 cheque for the last tenant too, and I binned it cos I cannot cash it.

Opening someone else's mail is a federal offence.

  • When was the last price hike?

  • Even an EMS parcel with an actual tracking feature managed to go missing inside their sorting centre. They kept pestering the LPO where my po box is located; um, if it was at the effing LPO I'd have my goddamn parcel already and wouldn't need to beg aus post to help me! Obviously they're in denial that certain sorting centre staff are thieving scum

I absolutely despise Aus Post. Why there hasn't been a ministerial enquiry into their monopoly yet I will never know.

I would encourage everyone to try an take up Officeworks parcel service which is provided by Toll. Competitive rates and better opening hours. I try and use it as much as possible (even if I have to pay a little extra) just to stick it up Aus Post
