MVNO Icon

Hey,
So this question has always puzzled me, if I switch to an MVNO e.g. Virgin, will the little icon in the corner of my phone say "OPTUS" or "VIRGIN".

If anyone could shed light on this puzzling question, please help me out :)

  • Depends…
    Virgin=Virgin

    but Live Connected and Vaya = Optus
    Can't comment on others.
    Yatango,
    Amaysim,
    Woolies
    etc

  • sometimes depends on phone…like my iPhone, I use Boost mobile at the moment, but it shows Telstra, if I switched to Lumia 920, it will show Boost.

    Yatango = Yatango
    Amaysim = Amaysim
    Woolworths = Optus

    yeah, again, depends on device, I use Pocket Wifi(Vodafail?), but sim card is Woolworths, the telcompany shows "Virgin"

  • Geforce2003, interesting contrast on your iPhone with Boost. They are supposedly, at least partly, and maybe murkily, owned by Telstra, and now being on the Telstra network - that is their main selling point.
    Optus run the whole Woolworths Mobile shebang from sign-up onwards, which explains the 'Optus' display.
    Extremedeal, if you're worried (?), yes, it probably will display on your phone as 'Virgin' if you take up a deal with them.
    Virgin are owned by Optus, but it shouldn't matter. Technically, they are operating as an MVNO.

    My recent - in a phone as opposed to modem - MVNO experience: Amaysim, RedBull Mobile, Yatango, Kogan, Transact. All display/displayed as such.

  • wife's android shows optus - she is with TPG. easily changed in android so hopefully easy for others too.

  • Your SIM will tell the phone what to display. Depends mostly on this.

  • For anybody on TPG - they're apparently changing their T's & C's to facilitate cutting people off if they choose to. Read the specifics carefully when you get them.

    Along with having gone from several plans a year ago, to now just one, it may well be an ominous precursor to them exiting the mobile space altogether. Smells a bit like it.

  • I know from personal use that AmaySIM, Kogan and ALDI all show themselves as the name, not the carrier itself.
