ING Living Super

Just received an email from ING regarding their super fund product. They state it is the first Balanced option available to all Australians with no admin or management fees.

I know there are fee for other options such as Growth and Direct Share

Is there any gotchas regarding rolling over current super balance to ING Super ?

Any comments or information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Colin

  • you missed the $50 bonus for switching :D:D

  • Aside from the potential of lower returns (ING taking the cream off the top), their documentation mentions they'll use returns of investments in the Balanced option to offset the cost of management. Also of significance is to watch out for the "Buy/Sell Spread" they slug you with if you want to change your investment option around. A percentage of your balance will be charged on buying into and selling out of specific classes of investments.

Both of those aspects turned me off it immediately. The cost of switching investments quickly becomes significant, especially as a super balance grows over time. Not a huge issue if you don't plan to ever switch your investment, but not exactly a wise plan if we see another GFC down the road. Couple that with lower returns on their "fee free" option and it's better to go with a well established, more transparent fund.

I wouldn't touch ING, but everyone's situation is different. Read the fine print, and remember that there's always something in it for them - no one offers something with no fees without getting something out of it.

  • Thanks for the advice RockDJ much appreciated.

I know all peoples situations at different but is there an Super Fund you advise me that would suit someone who is just looking for a low fee, balanced fund

  • I found it very good, got the voucher. As long as you don't change a around then it is a good option. I thought the staff were very helpful and upfront about what they charge and don't charge for. My wife's super was being eaten away down to nothing with fees from her previous provider so it was nice to be able to change and at least not see the funds totally disappearing.
