Just dropped my Nexus 4...

I just dropped my Nexus 4 and the screen has smashed and won't register any touch.

What do you guys think I should do?

  • Get screen repaired (Send back to google or just use any repairer?)
  • Buy a new Nexus 4
  • Buy a new different phone (?if so which one)

That sucks… A screen repair costs around $165 according to this blog

$165 dollars is a pretty high price to pay just go get the screen fixed, so you have to weigh up your options between getting a Nexus 4 for $300 or paying half the price of a new phone to revive your current one.

  • Lol, either fix it yourself using a $20 glass repair kit from eBay or get a new phone.

It's not just the glass that's broken. He will need to buy the digitizer AND glass panel, which costs quite a bit. $125 USD to be exact.

My friend broke his screen, and his digitizer - he fixed his screen using a toolkit and then sent it back as faulty and they fixed the digitizer completely and nothing was said again.

Maybe not at your friend's place, but I bet at Apple they're still spitting chips about it.

Might even be worth considering going back to the old 'dumb phone' for a few weeks and seeing what the Nexus 5 is like :)

    • Yeah I just realise that the nexus 5 should be coming out soon, so I definately want to wait for that. Only problem is that all my old dumb phones use the mini sim whilst my current sim card is a micro. I'm currently trying to find a friend who could lend me a spare microsim phone, but I don't know too many tech heads that might have phones lying about.

      • I think you can get some sort of adapter to make your sim bigger, not sure. It's just extra plastic around the edge really.

  • Same thing happened with my beautiful Lumia 820.

Got it repaired but I could see the difference. Sold it and bought a different device. A repaired device always feels like a repaired one.

That means it was a shoddy repair job.

      • Yea! Nokia guys quoted $200 as the repair cost. I chose the cheap alternative.
