Melbourne to Japan

Hey guys,

I'm after a good price for flights to tokyo (doesn't matter which airport) from melb (tull) late jan 2014 for 3-4 weeks. I'm pretty flexible with dates. I found direct flights with qantas last month for $1000 return which were only 10-13 hr flights but now they are $1500+ via expedia br

I'd prefer a decent airline, no budget - unless it is ridiculously cheap

And don't mind stop overs if its arrives its a couple hours max or if its longer, that it lands somewhere at an appropriate time for me to maybe leave the airport and explore.

I have checked expedia br jp etc. as well as skyscanner and all the airfares I've found are pretty much the same compared with if I were to purchase from an aussie agent. Whereas a month ago, they were significantly cheaper :(

Your help would help me out heaps.

Thanks,

EP

  • I paid about $650-700 for AirAsia from their last sale.
Vietnamese airlines is the cheapest for a decent airline but have to consider their transit in Vietnam.

  • Cheapest options are with OneWorld.

MH (Malaysian) is about $1150 booked into economy, with a stop in KUL.
JL's (Japan Airlines) codeshare with QF (Qantas) is $1100< with a stop in SIN.

    Dates are late Jan.

    • Thanks I ended up going JAL for just under $1100. Was hoping I could find better since I've seen so many in the past get <1000 for qantas or similar flights.

  • I paid $700 return with Jetstar last year when they had their sale for flights this year feb-mar. That was including exit row seats (basically infinite leg room lol). They usually do a japan sale every year but I haven't seen one this year yet. You could risk waiting for that or just find something else.

Jetstar isn't really budget in my opinion, either. It's definitely one of the best if it is.
