Heart Rate Monitor please help me !

Hi All,

I have been diagonised with high cholestrol and now I am keen on changing my life style which includes work out.

I bought a treadmill at home and I've been told the heart monitor does not give accurate readings so I'm after a Heart beat sensor.

After some searches I found Polar H7 which is within my budget ($60-$80) and it syncs with your iPHONE.

1)Can anyone suggest what are my options on the heart beat monitor around that price mark ?

2) Where can I get a best bargain ?

P.S. The apple application Polar Beat review is very poor some people cannot pair the bluetooth device. But in youtube and other forums it is otherwise. I'm so confused.

  • Are you sure the H7 measures your heart BEAT? Wait .. what's actually the difference between heart rate and heart beat?

I have used two Suunto heart rate watches (Quest & Ambit 2) - I found them quite accurate. And their heart rate belt are comfy to wear - I was told by a colleague that his Garmin heart rate belt somehow cuts into his skin. The H7 transmitter seems to be quite big/bulky - are you sure you are OK to have something like that tightened in front of your chest?

For Q2: try UK websites like wiggle or chainreactioncycles or evancycles. Domestically there are quite some online shops. However, if you want to make sure you get the right watch with no returns/regrets, I would recommend you checking the local shops like Rebels. I did spend some time trying on the actual product and asked quite some questions to make sure it's the right product. Indeed I wasn't happy with my original purchase - M5 and Rebel just let me exchange for a Quest. I am glad that I went to Rebels - instead of sending it back to the UK for exchange…

    • Thanks for the reply however I'm a bit lost. Did you mean to say either to buy Quest or Ambit 2? You also said you returned then. Are they really bad ?

I saw the price it's off my reach. As I said I plan only to spend $60-$80 on this product.

What's the difference between heart rate and beat ? I don't know that. Do you have the answer. ?

      • No Suunto is a very reliable brand. I am really happy with it. The very first one I bought was the M5 (that I didn't mention) - I wasn't happy with the level of online functions. As I haven't really used it, I exchanged for a better one (Quest) at Rebel Sports.

If I am paying $200 for a watch (and $550 for the Ambit 2) I would want to make sure it fits me well.

In your case, probably the polar heart rate belt would fit you.

  • You will most likely need to get a polar monitor if your treadmill has a polar receiver built in to it.

I would recommend the t31 uncoded transmitted http://www.thepolarshop.com.au/polar-accessories-c-7/t31-tra…

It does not hook into blue tooth or any of that other crap but it does send signals to your exercise equipment which the equipment will use to alter the resistance etc. to maintain your heart rate.
