To celebrate 12 years of Command & Conquer, EA Games is providing the original version of C&C Gold for Free! From the website:

"Thanks largely to the efforts of our loyal fans whom continue to sustain and grow the Command & Conquer community, Command & Conquer has become a legendary franchise and it’s time to celebrate its birth once again.

"In order to give back to the fans for over 12 years of devotion we are putting together a 12th Anniversary celebration during the month of September. However, as any Command & Conquer fan knows, the true party starts today, August 31st, which marks 12 years since Command & Conquer Gold launched way back in 1995.

Yeah. Bring back the good old memory!

  • Being getting The webpage cannot be found all day, hopefully they will fix it up!

    Thanks.

  • The page is loading now.

But the instruction doc is not there… just wondering what I need to do to install and play? Which one should I download, GDI or Nod?

  • Apparently GDI and NOD refer to the side you wish to play.

From what I've found on the net

"GDI is the Human resistance and NOD are the evil dudes trying to get some money… i would recomend the GDI campaign over the nod i always prefer to be the good guy"

  • EDIT I'm pretty sure you need to download both CDs to install it. It's been years since I've installed it, so I may be wrong, but get both just in case.

    Just a little bump here.
    Long time fan of C&C.
As Misa said, you have two CDs. One is for the "Evil" NOD, the other GDI.
In the old days, you'd have to put in each CD to play each campaign.

Both campaigns are unique, and neither is strongly better than the other.

If you have a virtual drive program like Daemon Tools, you can simply "mount" the .ISO file and it behaves exactly like a real CD. The other, suggested method is to burn the ISOs to a CD using Nero or whatever.

p.s. Internode, and GameArena both host these files. So if your ISP covers these sites, it's best to look there for free, fast, unmetered downloads.

i.e I'm with Telstra BigPond, and the download of these won't count towards my 10gig limit.

    • Thanks for the tips. Downloading from local mirror will be much faster as well. I downloaded both ISO a few nights ago and they went something like less than 20-30KB/sec from EA's server…
