Gotta love that dual core Snapdragon :-)

    Well Nokia does anyway…

From what I understand it's snappy enough for Windows phone 8 :)

      • lol, yeah, you would hope so for the price

      • I got it. (Your pun) even if Marchi didn't.

        • It's in italics, I got it…

    • even if it is enough for win8 phone, why dont they use the latest and greatest for their top end phone is beyond me. Samsung does not need 3Gb Ram and snapdragon 800 2.3 ghz for note3. Hell even 1.5gb snapdragon 400 on galaxy s3 is still blazing fast with no show of lag at all, but they just did. Apple does not need a 64bit processon on new A7 processor when iPhone4 still showing no lag at all, but they just did.

What the hack with MSFT and Nokia using old chip for their top end handset is beyond me. with the price i just buy the LG G2 or Note3 or Z1 and i know i get more for my money.

I only consider WinPhone if i buy something less than $150 as no android phone is good under that price. above that, there is no reason to buy

Win 8 Phone is alot slimmer and speedier than stock Androids now. It's the way phones should be using a dual core CPU and optomising your software means less energy consumption.

We've got CPU's in phones with clock speeds greater than computers and more cores than some PC's. Personally if they are needing that much grunt then your probably not being very efficient then are you?

The concept of core is completely different to what you said. each core is activated as needed and therefore is more energy efficient.

In fact, the newest CPU is manufactured using 28nm tech which is more energy efficient than the old CPU used in this WinPhone.

The fact that Windows phone is slimmer and speedier is down to the fact that
          1. it does not have true multitasking. I tried nokia 520 and try downloading the apps and switched to browser. when i got back checking the install progress, the download just freeze and just continue when i open the apps? try that with android. you can do million things at once.
          2. It does not have half the feature that android has. WinPhone is good for novice and people who just use it for phone email and play occasionally. other than that win phone in my experience is an exercise of frustration. It is like the good old blackberry. it is good but limited. I use it 2 days and missed 30+ call just because the volume is universal? hell the old nokia with symbian is better. another important thing is intent, with intent, any android apps can share content with another apps easily. try doing that with winphone.
          3. It does not allow for widget. When you load widget like auto sync Chrome Bookmarks, auto sync Facebook feed, flipboard, calendar, google now and GPS running in background etc i bet even Winphone will slowdown a lot.
          4. When talking about next gen Android like MotoX with task specific CPU for always on voice recognition, auto aware environment and smart watch notification link sharing etc like with Galaxy gear, the OS will need to be modified to provide capabilities for that

The talk that Android is not optimised is bullshit. The other OS just dont have half the feature and capabilities. The fact that Android is built for many different type of hardware and still able to perform flawlessly for most people on the planet and not a source of frustration for them(which otherwise will not be as popular) is a great testimony of how optimised the software is.

        • Good to see someone speak out the fact.
Android is not only for mobile, it is Going to snap a big share off ms windows, I bet google initially didnt expect this outcome.

        • Dual core is enough for navigating around the Win phone 8 OS, but try playing a few games like NOVA 3, and then it will show its age, it really lags in those apps

Granted some people don't always play games, but the processor can also affect the camera, as a phone with such high MP needs a faster processor, or else it will be quite sluggish

          Anyway, it's a decent deal

        • Agree with your points, but I still fail to understand why my S4 lags when compared to any of my window phones.

Again for user like me who is using this as a business phone a Windows8 device is perfect due to builtin office integration.
having a 41MP camera is just icing on the cake.

It was $749 at HN when they had the trade in deal.

    $788 here http://www.mobileciti.com.au/nokia-lumia-1020-yellow-4g

  • I am using one and its amazing, besides having a great camera the phone itself is much better to use then the Nokia 920 (my old phone). I also have a S4 (stock) and compared to S4 my 920 was much smoother and the 1020 is miles ahead.

Got to be one of the best phones I have used till date.

    • I didn't get it. Could you please explain why 1020 was much better than 920?

The only update I can find is ram.

      • Mate,
1020 is just smoother (more smoother) then 920 I think its due to more RAM and also the camera is not sluggish at all. I am using this for past 2 weeks and very happy with my choice.

      • There are 41 reasons why its better ;)

    • I've heard the camera part is quite sluggish though. After you take a pic, it takes about four seconds to get ready again.

So for the next flagship, MS will need to make a co-processor like Nokia did for the 808 or else they'll have to move to a quadcore CPU.

That, plus the fact Nokia is/will be a part of MS is what has been stopping me from upgrading my dying N8.

  • You can get 920 for $329 + delivery at Kogan, as far as I see, the diff between 1020 and 920 is more ram and a better camera, but hard to justify pay more than double for these extras.

    • The 920 is a little bulky, I got the 720 from Vodafone for $199, seems like the best deal if you want a stylish WP8
