      Its just the physical plug that matters in ios devices. The software update will not block 3rd party cables.

    I'm not saying these cables are bad but I've had very similar looking (albeit straight 1:1 cables not 3:1) flat cables like these and they've all eventually failed over a period of time :/

    Maybe we've been particularly unlucky or overly hard on ours, who knows.

      ah really? that's a shame, I've got a flat cable micro usb and it seems to endure pretty well. can't comment on the quality of these ones though but look alright.. (as cheap cables go)

    I saw that the iPhone 5s and 5c is not listed. Is that an oversight or do these cables not work with the newer iPhones?

    since this has 3 different connectors
