Free credit file report

Moved to Forum: Veda , Checkyourcredit

Two different companies offering a free 'credit file' report.
I was just reading an Age piece about credit file records and they mentioned these two companies offering a free service. The sites were both being hammered so I Google searched the sites for the word 'free' and came up with these two.

Both require 10 business days for processing.

I prefer the Veda one because It explicitly allows emailing the form back.

Always been free, catch is the time 10 business days will take 2-3 weeks. If you want it faster gotta pay.

  • That's a hell of a lot of personal information to be handing out to a random company (not saying that they are dodgy, but unless you really need a credit report for some reason, why would you give them all that info?)

Veda aren't random, they know all your information already. They have to verify that who is asking for the information is entitled to it. You can't just get anyones info, and when banks credit check you like when you apply for a loan, they have to pay for it. It's like $25 or $50 a hit from memory.

  • you can complete the checkyourcredit report request online, at least i did at the beginning of the year.

  • I was surprised at the lack of information in my credit file from checkyourcredit, so I recommend you get it from veda instead, who I am led to believe, provide much more comprehensive reports.

  • What does Veda actually proved ? I have done a check my credit before and it was pages of nothing - which yes is probably a good thing - is a Veda report differently formatted to a check my credit report ?

  • From experience, both companies store different information.

    Veda: credit card applications
    D&B (Checkyourcredit): mobile service applications

Why not get both and see?

    • I have used D&B couple of times and it shows both mobile service as well as credit/bank inquiries

  • Dunn & Bradstreet and Veda are both legit companies for anyone on the fence about handing out that much sensitive information. Veda is the main one used by the banks when assessing loans so if you could only be bothered to get one that's probably the one to go for.

  • Veda is rubbish, they don't even know where I work.

    It's a con… lol.

    • Veda is the most used service by small to medium loan companies. It does take time to have them update all of your information.but believe me it only takes 1 business day for them to update your unpaid default on your credit file.

I do recommend people to do a credit check by them self first before going to apply for a loan or a phone contract. There maybe an unpaid default or court action which you are not aware of ( these 2 things are the most common reason why your application gets declined)

my credit file.com.au is another option too.

      • Can we fill the form for Veda online? D&B has an online form..

        • To be honest I have never heard that Veda let you do your first credit check for free.

Try this http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/home/free-credit-file.dot Unfortunately you have to download the form and hand fill it, then send it to them along with required document ( for security purpose, they have to verify your ID first). Then wait 1-2 weeks to have the result mailed to your home address. ( PO BOX is not accepted).

There are several things you want to focus on when you have your credit file result.

          • How long is your credit age ?
          • How many identities of yours has been record ?
          • How many inquiries have you made last 6 months?
          • Is there any unpaid default has been record ?
          • Is there any court action ?

These are things which credit officer and loan officer looking for when they look at your credit file.

          Just saying

      • FYI, Veda and mycreditfile are the same company

  • Does VEDA email confirmation you when they recieve your app by email?
