WP8 compatibility

I can not use the OZbargain drop down banner on my WP8 phone due to this website apparently not being set up for touch devices correctly?

I ran this free tool to give more information

Any ideas devs?

Did you try using the mobile version of the site?

  • Most mobile browsers will open the mobile version of any site by default, unless you disable that setting, which will load the desktop version.

I find the problem with touchscreen devices is the hover/mouseover feature becomes redundant as there is no cursor. When you touch the pull down menu it opens the related link, which opens a new page, rather than give you an option to choose from that menu.
In OzBargain's case, the Deals/Forums/MyAccount Menus are inaccessble, you can open the linked page, but not the secondary items under those menu titles.
This issue is the same for many form submission buttons on other sites, where webcoders get too creative with scripting functions.

It will probably take time for the browsers to offer a workaround. A CSS/Javascript override might be possible for some browsers, but by far the quickest way is if users report these issues to their browser's authors to highlight the issue.

In Chrome on Android it works fine. When there is a pull down menu like on OzBargain the first tap pulls down the menu.

    • That's what I was referring to.. the pull down menu. So is there no way around it for now?

    • Pull down menu should work on touch devices. Well, I've only tested them on Android phones and tablets. For the menu we do also listen on "touchstart" event for the touch devices. Maybe WP8/IE implementation it a bit differently. Unfortunately I don't have a Windows Phone to test.

Due to touch the top menu would behave a bit differently. If you touch the top menu link, it would pop up the menu first. If you touch it again (after 1 second), it would then invoke the default link. For example touching "Deals" twice to go to new deals page.

Did you get the mobile version or the desktop version? If you are getting the desktop version then our user-agent detection needs fix.

      • I have a WP8- I have the OZB mobile site, and if I click on a menu link (say Deals) it pops up the menu for say half a second, while loading the link to the new deals. Hope you get me Scotty.
I think its something to do with Internet Explorer, as (rember the macca's free big macs) their slide to redeem didn't work.
