China - The quest for cheap domestic flights

I'll be travelling to China March next year and have booked my flights to Hong Kong(airasia), and then a couple weeks in China and flying out of Beijing to KL (airasia).

So far my searching for flights from HKG -PVG Shanghai have given me less than impressive results, mostly the cheapest per person at ~200 one way. I also need to book flights from PVG - CTU or perhaps a train, and CTU - PEK flights.

Can anyone provide me with sites that offer 'domestic priced' flight I feel I'm getting taken for a ride! excuse the pun…

  • Have you tried Spring Airlines?

  • MU (China Eastern) has HKG -> PVG -> CTU for $280<

Also, do keep in mind that Jetstar Hong Kong will be commencing their operations soon, so keep you eyes peeled as their 'launch' fares are often very cheap.

I booked flights from Australia to China + 3 domestic flights + China back to Australia from a travel agency. And they said that my domestic flights were 'free + airport taxes and stuff'. I'm not sure what that means, but I got a return trip + 3 domestic flights for $1.2k in total. I'm flying southern china airline for all the trips, maybe that's got something to do with my 'free domestic flights'.

That's good price. Which agency do you use?

      • Hi! Sorry I didn't know you replied. I used Holiday Xperience located in Boxhill, VIC. Prior to purchasing, I went around other asian travel agencies to look at different options, and all of the prices were quite similar.

  • ctrip.com

    • Ctrip is good, like how phat mentioned. Two other big companies would be Travelzen and eLong. These three would have the best prices, imo.

      • Yes. I used eLong and Ctrip before. They are both good and they have been in the market for a long time.

  • Spring Airlines looks good! about ~100 including taxes and luggage. Ctrip is good, but it can't find flights from Shanghai to Beijing? is it that people don't fly that route? I'd thought it would be a very busy route.

  • I think people take the high speed train.

Also I'm flying Dragon Air from HK to Shanghai soon. I paid around AU$350 for the return ticket.
