Nearly all of these are fake reviews. Take the risk if you want since it is free, but I'll pass.

    • Thanks for the input.

How would you be able to tell if they're fake? Not too sure if the readers are treating the reviews as feedback like on eBay. Hahaha.

      • Of the ones I checked, they had less than 10 reviews that were all 5 stars and way overreacting to the quality, "Love it, love it, love it!" etc.

It seems pretty common for people to do this on Amazon. I do get your point about the Ebay treatment though, I didn't think of it that way.

        • Fair enough. Thanks. Will keep an eye out. :) But yeah as @seb said as well, will need to have a look through the reviewer's other orders to see if they're legit.

It is necessary to check what other reviews if any the reviewer has in order to see if the person has legitimately reviewed any books.

@Composure - 'Take the risk if you want'

What's the risk? They are FREE books, get them if you want them!

        • +7

The risk is wasting your time.

Thanks for the advice - if I ever get the time to read them I'll first look at the reviews more closely.

Maybe the bigger risk is ineffective or dodgy advice.

They're free, I'll take the risk.

I think you're taking a bigger risk not grabbing these literary masterpieces. While I prefer 13 Questions you must ask prior to choosing a karate school in its original Latin, an English version, accessible to the masses is much appreciated.

  • Being free doesn't mean no risk, it may have no financial risk but your wasted time can be translated into other productivities bringing you income, so in which sense it is a risk provided the reviews are fake indeed

As opposed to time spent trawling OzB for deals?

      • But OzB is guaranteed to offer bargains or at least entertainment ;-)

  • Doesnt show up as free for me

    • Thanks for the info. I've updated the details as to which books are no longer selling for free (see above). :)

  • thx op

  • I've checked my farts and none are gold yet. Will keep trying…

  • re "productively using your time elsewhere" … Treat it as time out to refresh your brain, we all dawdle over various magazines, newspapers, croswords etc. If it looks OK then download; check it out in your "refresh" time. If useful/interesting read on, otherwise leave it. Win win + you might gain some small bits of knowledge to help (in the background) with your life's journey .
