This version doesn't have a light diffuser or zoomable lens. You'll get a very bright hotspot in the middle and while the throw has a fairly large distance the light doesn't have very good spill characteristics.

    • could go with a stick on fresnel, or take an ol portrait trich and use a lil vaseline to soften the focus i spose lol

  • $20 seems good value

  • Seems a bit large for a headlamp?

    • It's not that large - around 3 to 4cms in diameter! Lightweight too. It's the battery that weighs a bit. Great for the bicycle - huge light output that easily light's up the road in from for 30 meters.

I've bot numerous cree lights over the years (possibly some fakes in there too) but none come close to the quality or light output of this one!

Pleas post more small torch deals <$3… :)

Looks like it's from Hong Kong, I've had several T6 torches which run hot and seem to burn up after a few months to a year.
    Here's a review from ebay.

If it gets too hot then you're not cycling fast enough!

      • I have a similar one, and yes, it does not get hot unless you stop for too long.

        • The Cree XM-L series also have a rated peak junction temperature of 150C and the hotter the case gets the more effective it will be at shedding energy into the surrounding air, so i wouldn't be too worried about it being at a point you can hold it for nearly 30sec as that has to be under about 60 degrees, meaning that the core has to be 90C higher than the case to do damage, which would be exceptionally poor conduction over such a small space.

Would also be kinda fun (if you were worried, or wanted a credible excuse just to do it) to give it some nice sheet metal or aluminium 'wings' strapped on with hose clamps or glued on with heat sink glue or even bolted on. Or make glue on a bunch of old voltage regulator heatsinks from that old 8800GTX kit. Or make it bristle with the little spines of basic TO-220 sinks. ooooh - could have wings on the side and spikes on top! Let your inner 12yo out!

        • Would also be kinda fun … to give it some nice sheet metal or aluminium 'wings'

You seem to have misslept "knives" :-0

Bags not crashing my bike and going over the bars with a blade-and-spike modified headlight in my flightpath.

These things used to be a bargain when they were about $100. Now they're a ridiculous bargain.

Of course, the light output is massively overstated (although not as much as a 1000W stereo with 3W speakers in it), but really, if you need more light than you get from one of these, just get two of these. Or ten of these. Hard to find better $/lumen.

a> That computer says its chinese - i have had trouble with chinese computes
b> But its a lenovo, they bought out IBM, they are the top manufacturer in the world
a> oh, mine was a no brand, but it was definitely chines like that one
b> asus, gigabyte, HP, apple, almost all the best PCs are chinese made
a> but I had a bad chinese computer, you shouldn't buy chinese computers

Or in other words - what the heck does where its made have to do with it? If we judged countries on their worst models then nobody would ever dare buy an american car, or an italian one, or aussie, or french, dutch, swedish, indian - or anywhere else that had ever built a car for that matter

  • Hi is your website down at the moment?
I am having trouble with loading the page although all other websites seem OK to browse

    • Hi,it's working here,could you please try once more?D:

      • Ahh thanks just purchased one to replace my 'not so bright' Cateye.

  • These have certainly dropped a lot in price. I paid $70 a couple of years ago.

  • Crucial question - what capacity is battery? How many volts? How many mAh? Or is it a ocntainer for other batteries>
I am dead keen but it is a bit hard to buy with this most crucial piece of info missing - i mean it isnt going to be much use with a 5W emitter and a 3.6V 500mAh batter to run it for 20min

      • Dammit, now you just made it FAR too good to resist. You and my wallet are not friends, Aaron lol.

Any chance of a deal sometime on the Olight i3? I have wanted to get the missus one for her keyring for ages, always handy and easy to use to blind some1. Of course you would have to change the ridiculous policy of sending a random colour first too- what use is the ultimate chick torch if you cant choose colour? lol

        • Haha,I'd like to post a deal for the olight i3,do you think how much would be nice for a deal?

  • How many watts would one of these demand, surely it would chew through batteries?
My LED downlights are only ~320 lumen.

    • It is a matter of efficiency - Not all LEDs are made the same. These things are capable of 100 lumens per watt+ - the T6 nominal rating is 1040Lumens at 10W, and 1600 lumens is likely a bit optimistic. it is probably 10-12 watts.
Put that in perspective a 100W incandescent or 50W halogen are both rated in the 5-600 lumen range, so this is in the region of a pair of average car headlights, I run a less efficient 'corn' bulb in a couple of places in my house - the 13W in my kitchen is rated 8-900Lumen. I use 9W units in my lounge and dining that rate about 600 Lumen, ample for there. I use a nice little 2.5W in my bathroom most of the time, which is about 150lumen, plenty to use the loo by, we have a second light for showering.

Although I did test it a while ago I didn't write down how much current it draws. But…I tested a friends chinese one that looks the same about a year ago. I sat it on the bench with a fan to cool it and got 3hrs 15mins on a full charge. Battery at full charge unloaded = 8.18v, at cutoff unloaded = 6.32v

  • I bought a similar light from the Deal Extreme 50% off last year. Very happy with the purchase. The light is so bright, I only use it at the lowest brightness and one charge last me more than 1 month with 30 minute commute every night. Used this as a headlight, so I don't need zoom (bad idea to fiddle with your light when you ride) or light diffuser as I have flashing lights for the side visibility and attention grabbing.

  • Does this fit oversized handlebars? Seems like so many items i buy for bikes just dont fit the oversized handlebars and yet they are basically the normal handlebars for any decent roadbike!!!!

    • its just a rubber ring that holds it on. They often supply two sizes. You could get a bigger one if needed, or tie your own cord.
