Upgrade RAM for MacBook Pro - late 2007 Model

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the original RAM in a Macbook Pro.

It's current memory is listed as: 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.

Does anyone know where I can get a quality RAM upgrade, for a good price?

Thanks in advance!

  • ebay, gumtree etc.

  • MSY? TO install yourself? or?

  • Either or…

I've tried to look at the option for DIY, but I think I'd feel safer letting them do it, that way it WILL work the first time.

  • Installing RAM on Macs is super simple buddy! If you were in Perth, I'd gladly install it for you for free.

  • MSY doesn't seem to stock your type of RAM anymore since it is 5+ years old.

    next best thing would be:

    http://www.macfixit.com.au/4-0gb-2-x-2-0gb-owc-pc5300-ddr2-6…

then all you need is a precision screwdriver (size #00 I believe - couple of bucks from Jaycar/online) and just follow Youtube video. Should be pretty straight forward.

if you want, you can also try selling the old RAM on eBay to offset the cost of the new RAM.

    good luck :)

  • find out the maximum capacity and maximum mhz etc and go for it. youtube will show you how simple it is to replace it. i installed 2gb in an old machine that used to have 512mb in it and now it runs like a dream

  • I think i have a couple of 2gb DDR2 laptop sims spare. PM me with your address & ill post. That will give you 4gb total if thats enough (its all i have on my AIR and i find its plenty)

  • Check the max RAM it accepts - I have a late 2007 MacBook, which is listed as only using up to 3GB. But maybe the Pro is different.

  • Maximum RAM for MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) is 4GB:

    "2GB (two SO-DIMMs) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB"

If you currently have 2 x 1GB sticks, then you can buy 1 x 2GB to make 3GB, or replace both with 2 x 2GB to make 4GB.
