Please help me (and others) find a new air conditioner (reverse cycle) system before I melt!

I am thinking about getting a reverse cycle air conditioner ever since the ALDI 2.3kW system came out.
I went to the good guy and they recommended at least a 4.8kW since I am planning to put one in the living room only, and hopefully it will be powerful enough since it connects directly to the kitchen as well.

My budget is 800 - 1500

The ones at the good guys will set me back >1200, so I am looking for cheaper alternatives (and more value for money), such as ebay etc; but I do not know what to look for. Would it be better to wait for a deal?

  • this one is pushing it, especially since installation wont be cheap, is 7.2 too much?
  • are there any special features i should be looking for? A "Cold Plasma Air Purifying System"?

Where I plan to install the air con, the area of floor it can reach is approximately that which 6 medium size cars would fit if parked side by side.

I'm sure im not the only one facing this choice!

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

ps. I live in sydney

Buy brand new, not through ebay, get the warranty and get it installed by a licenced installer who will give you a certificate of electrical standards.

for a room that size a 4 or 5 kw machine would easily do it. 7kw is tooo too big

and buy a brand name, not no name.
a large chunk of the costs is installation - it's the kind of thing you only want to do once

  • You can also try 2ndsworld. I bought my Portable AC from them last year. It was a good deal. They should have a reverse cycle AC. They are in Auburn and Cremorne.

    • And Penrith for 2nds World

  • Check this one out.. I believe kelvinator is a good brand to have than to get a no brand one
