Should I get New laptop?! And what model? where?

Hi guys just wanted your advise and knowledge, please :-)
I have an old Dell d520 that I bought in 2007. I also have an iPad but I still use the notebook a lot with Microsoft office and occasionally videos and pictures but I am in the internet all the time too. So, there is nothing wrong with it but the battery has died 3 years ago. I was wondering if I wanted to be update with modern times, what should I go to? What OS? What brand? And for a OZBARGAIN price please :-)
Thanks
Ronaldo

Telling us your budget and preferred screen size would be a good start.

Or sign up to MSY's newsletters. They actually have good deals from time to time.

      OP, try this?
Acer V5-431P, 4GB RAM, Pentium Dual Core P997, with touchscreen + 1 yr accidental damage cover
      $409 after $69 Cashback

Do note this is a 'ultrabook' class notebook, and as such the performance of the CPU isn't exactly crash hot. If you want something with a bit more CPU grunt, you'd be looking at something a little heavier and thicker.
Pick anything you like from http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/notebook.pdf

I highly recommend an SSD (do a search on Ozbargain for special deals), if you want to get up to date with technology, the SSD is one of the best investments you can make.

      • not bad for the price but the 1yr accident cover ended 31 August

  • Hi Guys
thank you for your comments. I really do know where to start but if I can get something like scrimshaw suggests that is pretty good. I travel a lot and a thin computer would suit me best but with a bugdet of 600 max.
    Thanks

    • Try the ASUS Ultralight X502CA-XX004H if you want a 15 inch, but lighter notebook. I think it measures 0.9 inches in thickness, so this is great for traveling.

costs $485 (read the PDF document)

  • The Ultralight X502CA-XX004H is tempting. I noticed it has "OnBoard Memory", does that mean no slots for upgrade?
