What specs for a laptop for design course and a photo hobbyist?

Hi everybody,

I was wanting to get a laptop with descent specifications so it can help me with my design course and photo editing.

Budget: I would be happy to save up for a good machine but as a ozbargain if I get a really good value that would be the best.

Look forward to hearing from the experts from Ozbargain. :)

Thanks!

  • Screen. Above all else. Infact, if you are doing much with colour you will probably need to get an external screen anyway.

SSD will make everything more responsive.

Otherwise, whatever. Anything with a good screen will be expensive though.

  • i have asked similar query,

unless you are professional i think any i5 or i7 would be ok, 8gb ram or more, FHD screen IPS is a must on 15.6" size or more.

  • Thanks for your advices.
    Appreciate it.
    Cheers!

  • acer/dicksmith have a deal here for <$500 with cashback BUT

screen rez is low, but you could add an external monitor cheap
no backlit keyboard wish is great for FB in the evenings

get the latest Adobe Elements, it inc the best of lightroom(bridge) and photoshop but for a fraction of the price and the photoshop howto's in mags work with this too

    and good luck
