AusPost Parcel Pickup Problems

A little while ago i had a parcel come in on Friday, i wasn't home so the postman left the 'sorry we missed you' card as is standard procedure. However on the card it stated that pickup was available from Monday.

While i was at work, the AusPost track advice email was continually updating until before i got home it changed to 'awaiting collection'.

So i got home, disregarded the date because of the email, and went to my local post office.

The attendant was severely adamant that there was no possible way the parcel had come in. I said to him that back in my hometown, the parcels are usually available for collection from 4 o'clock. Even when shown the track advice email, he refused to even go and check.

No line of customers so while i was disappointed, i left.

Brings us to today when i got the another track advice email on a parcel that it was awaiting collection. So again i went home, got the card and this time, changed the date to todays date instead of tomorrow. What do you know, the attendant went straight to the back room, got the parcel out and i was on my way.

Has anyone ever received the usual AusPost 'sorry we missed you' card that states pickup is available for the next day, a track advice email that states 'awaiting collection' and after all that also been refused at the post office?

While one reason could be that they state the next day just to make sure that the parcel really does get to the post office (in case driver is running late or something), doesn't the track advice only update when the parcel is scanned in somewhere or by someone?

Anyway, that's my vent for the day.
Don't even get me started on post office delivery people that don't bother to knock and just card it out…

  • Atleast you get cards.

My delivery driver doesnt even bother with that - doesnt ring the bell to attempt delivery nor leave a card, then I get to cop a mouthful from the Post Office staff when I dare ask them to check if I have a parcel.

IF I'm lucky, they'll actually bother to check if I have a parcel rather than wonder off for 30 seconds before coming back empty handed.

Australia Post… ran by idiots. Or atleast my area.

    What you do is this:

If you have the tracking number handy (usually when someone sends you something you've bought they let you know the tracking number too) go to: http://auspost.com.au/track/

Enter the tracking number and if nothing comes out you can still subscribe to 'Track advice' by entering your email address, when you receive the email you'd be asked to confirm it by clicking on a link, once that's done you're subscribed for that particular tacking number and you will get info of all the stages, from the parcel being 'on board with driver' to 'awaiting collection' etc. once you have the email saying your package is awaiting you at the post office, you show them your smartphone with the email confirmation… even if you don't have the mail card with you, they can't refuse to give you the parcel once you've shown ID.

Aus Post in my area is a giant fail. I don't know if this happens to everyone but most of the time they don't bother knocking on your door even though it was with aus post couriers (only shipping option available from the store I was purchasing from at that time). I was home the whole day and when I checked my mail outside there was a card "we missed you". When I went there, it was about 4:30, they couldn't be bothered checking at the back and were disgustingly rude to me as though I was bothering them. They were all packing up and had started refusing customers even though their trading hours states they close at 5pm. Even the pace they walk at is annoying, THEY DAWDLE. Bottom line is that you are not alone in this, the whole of Australia has had one or many horrible experiences with them.

worse still is when they close down parcel pickups from the post office and send you 5km down the road to a different suburb, past 2 other post offices to their distribution warehouses to get your parcel, after they pull the no card, no attempt crap some drivers pull. The icing on the case is when they put self serve machines and international currency stands in the shop they deemed to small for parcels to pick up!

In my area, the post man does not even carry the parcels with him. Each time I have to go collect them. I know that because Once I saw him putting "we missed you" card into my box when I am leaving, asked him I am here can I have my parcel, he said its not with him I have to go to collect them from Au post. When I tried to complain about it guess what, I am not the only one who is complaining and the Au post does not do any thing about it.

      • Hahaha, one time i actually requested that the post office keep the parcel at the office and leave me a 'sorry we missed you card' instead because of my shady room mate.

        They said it wasn't possible..

  • Wow, i didn't realise how good i had it until i read your posts!

Makes me feel lucky i get the occasional door buzz to see if im actually home!

  • I've seen the opposite apply. A friend had received a card and his parcel had a status of awaiting collection, but the staff member at the post office went to the back and located his package. As with most things, The service you receive can be dependant on the staff member that you encounter. Was it the same attendant with each parcel?

    • Nope, different attendants, different branches.

North Melbourne and Hotham Hill to be exact.

I have multiple security camera video of "sorry" cards placed in my letterbox without them even taking the parcel out of the truck, nor walking to my front door. Auspost dont care. Drivers are all contractors and dont care.

  • Anyone know what their policy is on carding apartment complexes?

  • Around here the austpost parcel delivers are great. It is a secure area and they always leave parcels at the door when NAH unless it is obviously an expensive item.

I can recommend a loud and working door bell.

Austpost pay their contractors peanuts and continually screw them for a better deal.

The problems here seem more related to the contractor for their area and not all parcel delivers in general.

We do have problems with private co's, aagghhh!!! too many to mention. When ordering I am always pleased to see delivery listed as being by austpost.

  • my posty usually leaves it in my power/fuse box a couple of meters from my front door. and then leaves a "sorry I missed you card" which says "in power/fuse box"

  • my area has the normal postie and the contract parcel delivery guy, depends on delivery method, postie only delivers letters/large letters, anything more and i get a card whether i'm at home or not, contractor always brings parcel with him, i mean, we pay for the damn postage so they should carry it with them, not automatically leave it at the post office and leave a card just because it's "more convenient" for them, what is this a new "off peak" parcel delivery?! should be cheaper rates for less service, considering sometimes i have to spend petrol/parking ticket/time going out of my way for something that was supposed to be home delivered in the first place
