This deal is really only $1 gift card.

    I.e. $100 gift voucher - $99 annual fee!

You mean I only need to spend $3325 (13300/4) at David Jones for a $100 gift voucher? Rewards programs are always a scam.

    • +1

that means you have to spend $4433 outside DJ or $3325 in DJ per year to getback your annual fee. Plus 80% places don't accept AMEX and 80% of the remaining 20% places have 3%+ surcharge on AMEX.

  • DJ profit margin is whopping 40%

  • a better deal was $50 gift card on application and $100 gift card after you spend outside of DJ in 7 days a couple of weeks ago, last Thursday, I heard DJ were giving $75 on application! Keep waiting guys, I think DJ will offer $100 on application soon :D

Really, I got $50 gift card on application two weeks ago and just received the new credit card, looks like I should have been more patient.

  • i heard that someone applied for a card and got rejected but still got the $50 gift card..

  • I got a $50 gift card on the spot, and two more $50 cards, a few weeks after I used the Amex card. also, you'll also be doing the salesperson who signs you up a favour — not quite a commission, but they have a monthly quota of storecards to 'sell' (I just picked the cutest/most deserving staff member, you don't have to sign up with the people hanging around DJ's front door).

interestingly, Amex didn't check my employer details at all, but they gave me the card anyway, with a $4500 limit — that may be another 'loophole' I guess.

they also had a sale with 30-40% off for the last several weeks, plus you get the monthly brochure telling you what new offers there are for cardholders, like when the next sale is (so you won't miss out on the best sale stock). they also have 4yrs interest free periods if you need a new computer/home theatre system/etcetera, up to the limit of your card (that makes a better deal than Harvey Norman, AFAIK).

down side — $99 card fee, but if you think you're likely to $100 or more in DJs in the next 12months, it's not really a loss — you get $150 back.

  • currently on offer for May 09 is you get a $100 gift card and 7000 bonus points which = $50 card . tempting but i dont shop there much though they do price match. i wonder if i should wait to see if they will offer DJ store card holders a free up grade to the amex card. I dont know if it will ever happen since myer is now charging $39 annual fee for their store cards. oh well might just have to buy some DJ shares to get the amex annual fee waived. Anyone know of another way to ge tthe annual fee waived?
