iPad Charging Cables

Hey guys

Does anyone know where to find iPad 4 Lightning Cables that actually charge iPads? I've bought quite a few Lightning Cables off eBay however all give me the same problem ("Not Charging" in the battery section). They do however work for syncing, as well as charging/syncing iPhones.

I've eliminated the possibility of it being a problem with the outlet/mac/iPads.

Anyone found a seller on eBay (or elsewhere) that sells cables that work? I'm looking for something substantially cheaper than Apple's $40 price tag.

Cheers

  • What are you using to charge the iPad?
Most computer USB ports don't deliver enough power to charge iPads. Try using the included power adapter instead.

    • Yeah usually computers only output 1A out of their USB ports, but the Apple lineup of machines output 2.1A - the amount needed by an iPad.
I have also tested this using both numerous wall chargers (all of which are stock) and no dice. I know for a fact it's not the wall charger or Mac or iPad as it will work if i use a stock lightning cable.

  • Lightning cables are $25 for 0.5 and 1m and $39 for the 2m. For all the time and money you waste trying to buy a cheap one, just buy the official cable and that way it is guaranteed to work.

    • haha true, but is paying retail really the ozbargain way? :P
as far as money spent goes, the ebay sellers usually refund me once i show it doesn't work, so cost has been negligible.

  • Don't buy Kogan! They bring up the iOS7 warning and sometimes actually DIScharge my iPhone. Then all sorts of resistance to giving a refund. I got a 3 pack for $15. They are also $9 each but rubbish cables :(
I must be lucky or something - bought one off eBay $1.68 delivered, works PERFECTLY. Have ordered 3 more for $5.49 (from a different seller who confirms no iOS7 warning). Fingers crossed. :)
I use one on the desktop, one on the laptop, one by the bed, one in the ensuite and one in the car…. :)

  • Based on a tipoff on these forums, I bought several cables from this ebay listing:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221291992288
Having just received them, I tried them on my ipad 4th gen running IOS 7.0.3

The cables work (i.e. they allow charging) when plugged into the Apple supplied AC plugpack, replacing the genuine Apple cable.
They won't allow charging however, when plugged into my laptop. Probably because my laptop ( Lenovo T520 ) cannot supply 2.1A through the USB ports. Sync works ok, though.

It's possible that the next IOS update could kill compatibility with these and other non-genuine cables.

  • i knew a cheaper one made in china but i could not post here because i am a newbie here.
