Should I keep my 5yr old power Supply?

Gday folks … im planning to build a new pc and was just wondering peoples thoughts on whether i need, or should, upgrade my power supply?

Its a Thermaltake 750W modular PSU and its currently sitting in my Thermaltake Armour full ATX tower running a E6750 Core2Duo on a p35 motherboard (i think). It still runs ok … but i do get the occasional BSOD and on very rare occasions it sometimes requires me to switch the power off/on completely to boot up.

  • I'd get a new one for peace of mind.

PSUs can take things down with them, depending on how they die and it's probably not worth the risk on a new PC.

  • +1

Reasonable chance your PSU has nothing to do with your issues. Hve you looked into the actual BSOD issue? Tried swapping motherboard/PSU?

why not? if it fails later on then you can buy a new one.

you can can buy a cheap psu tester off a chinese site if you want to test your psu

    • I'm not sure If I want a PSU to fail on me. I might be doing something important when the power decides to conk out… Murphy's Law? And there's the possibility of PSU failure causing damage to other components.

Don't skimp around when choosing a power supply either, get a good brand i.e Antec or Corsair.
