The Good Guys price match on 60 inch Samsung LED

Hello fellow Oz Bargainers,

I had a good experience with buying a TV on the weekend….

I had $2K burning a hole in my pocket and I needed (wanted) a new TV of at least 60 inches in size. LED not Plasma though and NOT exceeding $2,000.

I tried JB HiFi first as in the past I have had some salespeople really come down in price for me. JB had the model I was after the Samsung UA60F6400AM at $2296 if memory serves. I was immediately approached by a sales person and I advised him that I was just browsing. I had my iPhone out quickly trawling through forums and price sites to see what I could get a price match for. I quickly came across http://penta.com.au/samsung-51-more-tv-c-138_4243_4244_4252_… which had it listed for $1898 and asked the sales person who originally approached me what the best price he could do for cash. He pulled out his PDA and stated $2250! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! I told him I could get it for under $2000 online and I am willing to walk unless he can do it under $2K. He tapped his PDA again and said $2150 is the LOWEST he could go. I thanked him for his time and left.

After that I thought I might try out TGG as the one closest to me (Rockingham, WA) is pretty big with a great range. As I walked in I had a look at their price match policy as it stated they would match any competitor’s price online or in store… 'BEAUTY!!!' I thought. I pulled up the site and approached the salesman. I quizzed him on the price match policy and confirmed he would match any online price I could show him. The Samsung I was after, they had for $2096 which was better than the lowest JB would go. I showed him the price of $1898 and he stated "wow, nice price" but in the same breath said "we have to add on shipping on the price match from them as it's from NSW to WA" I asked him to have a look which he did…… $16.99 Australia Wide!!! I seen him just sink when he muttered "Well, I guess we will have to match it….. I'll just have to go get my manager"

I was very impressed with TGG ability to price match and overall have cheaper prices on TV's than what I saw at JB which is a shame as I do enjoy shopping at JB.

$1914.99 on a nice looking TV and one of the better prices I have seen from a brick and mortar store.

TL; DR - Samsung UA60F6400AM - JB didn’t price match. The Good Guys did $1914.99.

  • Pentas a dodgy company. All over whirlpool, I was surprised they would pricematch against them.

LOL - I would NEVER buy a TV via post anyway. Too many issues and return would most likely be at my cost if anything went wrong. At the end of the day their signs in store stated they would beat any competitors advertised price online and also a picture or website shown on phone would suffice as proof. If this is the case with them…. Here's hoping many more 'dodgy' sites pop up so we can price match them ;)

Wow, I am amazed anyone would even think about matching prices with Penta. Distributors won't even price match Penta on occasions.

Link shows $1848 for me? You should have waited until tomorrow!
EDIT: Just remembered this is OzBargain.. Return it and buy it again!

    • Damn! It it is too!

I have it all set up and tuned in. I'll wear this one :)

You should go back and get the good guys to honour 30 day Price Guarantee.

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/content/Price_Guaran…

"If you find a lower price online or advertised within 30 days of your purchase we will beat it by 120% of the difference. "

I've personally used it many times. I tend not to negotiate, another great way to save an additional 20%.
Only hassle is having to go back to get them to refund the difference.

    • Hmmm…. that seems like less hassle and for potential $60 I might go down the rd this weekend and see what they can do for me.

      Cheers Yacht for the info.

    • Does anyone know if this 30 day Price Guarantee for ONLINE stores is something new?
Some time last year, I was told they dont beat online stores- including Dick Smith website.

Not new but some people do not know how to play the system. Find a cheaper price else where, go to the goodguys and tell the sale person I want this item.

Go back 1 day later and tell them that xxx has the item for yy dollars cheaper.

        eg.

Westinghouse Fridge $2400 at GG. Appliances Online have it for $1799. save an additional $120 using the 30 price promise.

  • Just bought this TV at TGG Pakenham for $1920. Thanks Ozbargainers for sharing your deals! I showed the salesperson the posting and he reluctantly matched it (well close to it)
