Looking for a new phone - recommendations?

Hello everyone,

i recently broke the screen on my galaxy nexus. It was a phone i liked but it was getting old. I am now looking for something to replace it, but there is no real urgency.

problem is, i am picky: my future phone needs 4G (preferably fully compatible with Optus TDD/FDD), i want a 1080p screen, and i want a good camera, and it needs to be upgradable (with or without custom ROMs) to 4.4 eventually.

so far, i had two in mind:
- LG optimus G Pro
- LG G2

I would also like SD expansion capabilities which is what is holding me back from getting the G2 or the Nexus 5.

my budget would preferably go sub $500 out right.

Any advice on the devices above, or any recommendations? (i don't like Samsung).

imports and Chinese phones are fine with me too, provided their price justifies the cutbacks (but 4G is non-negotiable)

thanks for your help all!

  • Nexus 5

Everything you say is true, however given your list it hits every spot except the FDD and the SD. The first only really matters if you live in government town, and the second can be dealt with via OTG USB drive. 32GB is enough for day to day usage, and if you want to watch a movie the OTG USB drive can deal with that need.

It will get much better support, now and into the future, than any other comparable phone; easier to get accessories; wireless charging, etc. - I don't see anything on the horizon that's going to beat it.

  • 4G unbranded mobile phones do not seem to be around at this moment in time (not that I could find anyways). If this is the case then branded versions are going to be your only path to follow.

I keep an eye out on unbraded versions for the 4G ability but I think it will be some months before I see these devices come out.

  • i like LG G2 better, you can think about Galaxy Note 3 if your budget is big enough.
