When to buy that gadget (computer/tablet/ect) this Christmas season?

So Christmas is coming up any one know when the best time to start buying these things comes up?
Been looking at buying the Nexus 2013 32gb new from a retail shop under $299.00 (preferably $250-$275)but I haven't really taken notice when they really start slashing prices for the Christmas season. So whens the best time to pick one or any computer up?

  • Generally these types of items are not influenced much by seasonal sales.

      well damn!
so just buy it when it comes on sale then I guess DX.

I disagree, at least if you want to buy from an established store.
Approx 1st & 2nd week of December will see the peak sale for jbhifi, bing lee etc but it doesn't guarantee the item you want will be included.
In my experience, the prices drift up again after about the 12th, and you can find stock level issues. Plus it is stupidly busy.

    • cool thanks maybe they'll get a price drop then! Hope so as I've been saving for it and have the case on it's way!

  • It is all down to supply & demand and the cost/benefit of saving a few dollars vs. your time shopping/keeping an eye out. You could review price tracking services like http://camelcamelcamel.com/ to help gauge. IMHO, it is best to avoid leaving it too late and missing on stock of that latest toy before Christmas if gift timing is important. Otherwise maybe post holiday sales. Also for this kind of goods I think the stores also stock up ahead of back to school. And, of course clearing out stock for upcoming new models which can occur anytime.

    • No it's for me so missing out is ok and I don't see a new nexus 7 coming out soon they're pretty yearly though but it's be nice to have it while it's the newest.

  • Maybe when I can post deals, I will post some for you.

  • Possible deal coming in for tomorrow.
Dick smith has a Dick Smith Family and Friends Staff Sale on he 28th
and has the Nexus 7 32gb 2013 edition at $288
Not sure if it'll work but take that flyer to office works and you might be able to get it at $273.60.

The question is at $273 should I strike it now or wait to see if something better comes along. I think I remember there being a 2013 32gb price matched from binglee in the $260 range I'll need to look that up again though.

    • Good luck on finding stock for tomorrow, not sure what the levels are at the moment but knowing DSE…

Do OW usually check for stock first before price match or is that more a retail thing?

      • Thats the question, I was thinking of going down right as they open Dick smith won't be open and their stocks levels still show as available so they (ow) will hopefully have to go with the online stock levels.

        • Good idea, I reckon do it if you want it for/before Christmas and let us know how you go with Officeworks 5% price match/beat. You could also consider buying from somewhere with an after sale price guarantee like http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/content/Price_Guaran… (30 days and %120). Although they do not have a price match/beat policy, they are known to be negotiable and do sometimes match prices in my experience, YMMV.

        • Yeah I took a look at tgg price Gutenberg too but 120% difference is a little less then the 5% price best. Also tgg guarantee had some wording regarding limited sales which might be an out I don't see any out for the ow guarantee though but someone in the dock south thread seems to think they won't honor it as it's possibly a restricted offer. Although it's not that restricted you just need the flyer..
