Vietnam Visa

Hi everyone,
Next month I am going back to Vietnam. As I know this website http://www.cheapvietnamvisa.net
cost $8( service fee) + $45 ( stamping fee) = $53 /person.Does anyone know any cheaper than this website ?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Last time we went to vietnam we did it through the Vietnamese embassy, but more expensive - I think about $75 p/person and we were only in vietnam for 3 days! Would be interested to hear if you do end up using that website and whether it works reliably.

  • Do you have a non-Australian passport? It's cheaper for ASEAN citizens I recall.

    • ASEAN citizen gets a free visa

    • If you Are ASEAN citizen, you don't need a visa to travel within SE Asia

  • Remember to bring a passport size photo. We forgot and it held us up and cost an extra few dollars.
My travel agent in Hanoi did the paperwork for $5, but we were booking Ha Long Bay cruises, not just the VOA service.

  • It's easier to post your passport to the vietnamese embassy in Canberra then do all this stuff.

If you are travelling in peak period - the wait to actually purchase your VISA at the airport can exceed 90 minutes.

    • Easier, but more costly, and the added postage, money order costs etc.

        You can send them cash.

I'd rather pay for it and do it all in Australia than risk sitting there in the airport for up to 90 minutes and have your baggage sitting in a public area unattended.

  • Not 100% sure on this, but I think you can get visa stamp on the spot right at the airport, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't cost 50ish bux.

Visa on arrival fees went up at the start of the year and are now $45USD for single entry. Add the admin fee for the VOA company (around $8).

      • mskegs is spot on. You have to pay US$45 for VOA, and you need a photo with you. If someone will organise your VOA letter for $8 then it's not worth shopping around to try to get that cheaper (I know that's not the OZB spirit!). My travel agent did it for $3, but they were being paid a lot more for the other bookings they made. Don't forget to take US currency with you to pay the fee at the airport.

  • so the best way to save is apply visa through Vietnam embassy isnt it?

      No, it's costlier.

You have to Express Post your passport there and back.

This is accurate, but the fees are cheaper if you get a visa at the airport (called VOA, visa on arrival). Note the above does not specify fees.
You first must get a letter of authority from a travel agent, costing about $8. Do this before you leave, a scanned copy is fine, as they will email it to you. Be aware that the agent must submit your details to the visa ministry, who then stamp it to say OK. Many agents will make one list of all of that week's tourists and take it to the ministry, so as well as your details there may be dozens of other peoples details on the letter you receive (and they will have your details). This could be a bit disconcerting.
When you land, you present the letter plus a passport photo and $45USD cash to the Visa window airside of immigration. The fee is higher for longer visas or for multiple entry. There is an ATM that issues USD in the airport at Saigon, but I would have the correct money in hand if possible.
They will mill about for a bit but eventually put a visa stamp in your passport. Allow a minimum of 20mins for the process, but it can take longer.
You then pass through immigration and customs as usual.

  • $US8 is a brilliant price for online approval. Thanks for the tip. I normally pay $US14. $US45 Is a set stamping fee for single entry. The visa on arrival people at the airports in Vietnam are very patient and very helpful. And many people turn up with nothing at all, and are helped. Personally I would send them back home!! But to reconfirm what others have said, take 1. Approval letter AND a completed application form that your agent should email to you; 2. ONE photo stuck to the form (many websites say 2 photos, but this is BS - I have done it a dozen times.) 3. EXACTLY $US45 CASH.
If u can, get a seat on the plane close to the front exit, and sprint off to beat the rest of the passengers to the queue. The VOA counters are easy to find. In Saigon it is to the left of immigration line. On average 20 minutes wait to get your passport back. When they call your name out they will probably call it back to front and inside out using your middle name, and pronounce it in a very strange way, and so listen hard when they call names.

    • hi Peck, I wonder how long average you wait for stamping fee for single entry? I will arrive to Hochiminh city ard 9am middle next month, hopefully is not peak hour isnt it?

      • Single or multiple entry the waiting time will be the same. It is just the one visa attached to one passport. It will depend on how many people are in the queue and what planes have landed at the same time. I have never been through in the mornings. . I don't know when peak hour is, but last time a tour group (bus load of Chinese) pushed in front of everyone and I don't think that I waited any more than 25 minutes. That is the longest that I have ever had to wait. And then immigration was only about a 5 minute wait.

  • If we are in KL, would getting a visa for Vietnam be cheaper there?

    • Citizens of some countries are exempt from having to have a visa for Vietnam.

  • I'd rather pay more and do it all in Australia.

Too risky in my books to wait in line for up to 90 mins to get your Visa at the airport and have your bags sitting there unattended for all that time.

    • So you said earlier. Considering the bags are air side of customs, it isn't especially more risky. Afterall, you just spent 9 hours with them out of your sight, and I have not heard of pre-customs baggage theft being a thing. Happy to be corrected if you have some evidence there is a problem though.

    • It is true that your bags will be waiting for you on the baggage carousel when you get past the Immigration desk. (But the bags probably took, say, 10 minutes to come out) Waiting in line is only a few minutes, but then standing around and waiting for your name to be called average 15 minutes, but, worst case scenario 30 minutes maximum total. My conclusion, bags will be unattended for an average of 10 minutes. Also the baggage carousel is a reasonably secure area, because you then need to take bags through xray. I certainly would not steal an 'abandoned' bag from the carousel, because for one, abandoned bags have a higher risk of containing illicit goods, and two, they xray every bag after the carousel. Sending my passport to consulate/embassy would worry me, and 2 trips to the consulate for a visa is not fun. Saving the money is just a bonus.

      • I've been to Vietnam three times this year. In Jan and May the wait was an hour. Got fed up so when I went in Sept I just did everything via Canberra. Got through everything before my bags came out. Last year it was between 15-45 mins wait per visit.

  • I have a ticket to Ho Chi Minh leaving from Perth on Thursday. Anyone keen?

  • Hi guys, I am ended up go to Vn embassy in Sydney & pay $65 for adult & $55 for kid .Its take me a day to process the visa, sound fine for me.again thank you so much for all your advices

    • $65 for adult??? Do you mean $85 or have I been getting ripped off?

      • for Vietnamese people it will be $65 however for Western $87

  • Are you sure about that price? That sounds like the 'old' price to me

  • yesterday I called the embassy that whats I heard

  • If you don't want to do the visa on arrival thing and rather have the visa all sorted before you leave, but also don't want to send your passport to the Vietnamese embassy then there's another option. If you live near a suburb with a high Vietnamese demographic, one of the Vietnamese travel agents can usually arrange an entry visa for you. Here in Melbourne a Viet friend recommended me to a travel agent in Footscray. I got mine sorted the other week and it was $85 for a 30 day single point entry Visa.

    • Hi! I know this is old but any chance you remember the name of the travel agent?

      • Going off memory, I think it was central world travel agent in footscray

  • i used the website and sent my visa to the Vietnamese embassy in Aust, i was pretty stoked when i arrived in Saigon in the middle of the night and saw the line up for the via in the airport. Went through customs they looked at my visa and shook their heads then took me to the queue to get a visa issued in vietnam.
