Anyone interested in getting a Xiaomi MI3 mobile phone?

When I was posting a deal today I was made aware that someone in Australia actually knows this Chinese brand. I was so surprised!

I'm just curious how many OzBargainers are interested in Xiaomi phones (in particular, the latest released Xiaomi MI3)?

It would also be great if you can let me know other Chinese brands you're interested in.

Thanks!

  • Was looking at getting this phone till the nexus poped up

  • Hi, I am interested in the Xiaomi M13 and also the Xiaomi MIUI Red Rice phone. What are your thoughts on those phones value for money wise ? Can you quote the prices of each phone ?

  • +1

So a 16GB Xiaomi MI3 would be around $485 delivered ($450 to Taobao, $35 to you)? That makes it around $60 more expensive than Nexus 5. How does Xiaomi Mi3 compares with Nexus 5? Seems to have better camera, much bigger battery etc. Not sure whether it justifies the extra cost.

    • Actually I'm a bit surprised when I know there's some interest on Xiaomi phones in Australia.

I'm glad to see more and more Chinese/Taiwan brands are getting known here. :D

      • Most people are only interested in smaller Chinese brands mainly because of how good value they are compared to local options.

        For e.g
$220 dollars USD will buy you a THL W8 with 16GB of memory, 1080p display and a quad core CPU. Not to mention it also has expandable SD memory and a removable battery.

There is no way you can get a quad core 5 inch 1080p phone for $220 locally in Australia.
Have a look at what Mobicity sells in the sub $240 budget category. The specifications are at best, mediocre and some are even overpriced.

So you can see why there is an interest in lesser known brands like THL, Cubot, Lenovo ZTE and so on. However buying a phone from overseas is always a gamble since if the phone fails, its very expensive to ship the phone back to China since the postal service here is a rort. International vendors also have no need to observe the strict consumer laws and have no obligation to provide product warranty.

Xiaomi is an interesting one. They tend to aim at the higher end market and I would consider their price to be relatively expensive for a company that only has brand recognition in one country — China. If I was going to spend $300+ for a phone I'd be looking at a more well known brand with local warranty, tech support and customer service (e.g LG Nexus or Samsung Galaxy).

  • people will be interested only if the price is competitive, your price is certainly not.

    • Thanks mate, that is actually a very good point. We'll do some research and find more competitively priced Chinese phones in the near future. :-)

  • chinabuy.

are these special version your importing for us to use in australia? i looked around and there seems to be CDMA and TD CDMA versions, which one would you be getting for us?

    • Thanks @wakkawalla, as far as I know all MI3 right now are TDS-CDMA versions. If we post any specific phones as deals we'll make sure to state clearly if it is WCDMA (which will work with 3G networks in Australia) or TDS-CDMA (which will only work in 3G networks in China).

If you choose to order through our order form: http://www.chinabuy.com.au/order you can specify the model you want. :-)
