Year vs Mileage (and X-Trail vs RAV4)

Hi. I've been reading posts about year vs mileage but I'm still not sure how to choose between similarly priced cars with small differences between these two.

For instance:
Nissan X-Trail
(ST) 2006, 117,000 kms vs (ST-S) 2007, 131,000

Which one is a better deal given the same price? I don't know much about the difference between the models but I suppose ST-S has more features?

Also, given a choice between these two, which do you prefer?
Nissan X-Trail or Toyota RAV4 (higher mileage)

Thanks.

  • I think it would be better to worry about logbooks, condition, car history and perhaps added extras such as alloy wheels, sunroof, tinted windows, sound system, roof rack, etc.

  • I would choose the X-Trail having owned one for 9 years and doing the comparison between the two at the time. The X-Trail has a better engine IN MY OPINION having driven both.

  • At that age 15k difference in mileage is nothing. Servicing will play a much bigger part. Make sure there has been regular log book servicing.

I've owned a couple of X-Trails and would certainly recommend them. Some people don't like the look of them but I think they look ok. Boot space is a big plus.

From memory ST-S is just a regular ST with a couple extras. Sunroof was probably one of them. You'll need to compare features of the actual cars because there are quite a few optional extras that may have been added.
