Best way to empty a Dyson Vaccuum cleaner?

Hi everyone. I recently bought a dyson vaccuum cleaner. The new dc54 model. I have never had a dyson or a bagless before & im wondering what the best way to empty it is? I have been emptying it in the garbage bin outside but still all the dust flies up into my face and blows everywhere when I tap it.

It does have good suction but im not sure I like the emptying part of it. It will probably take me some getting used to as ive never had a bagless before. Just thought for something that costs so much there would have to be an easier way to empty it? Anyone have any tips?

Also,do you think dysons really do pick up more from ur carpets than other vaccuum cleaners? Im just wondering if it looks like it does because u can actually see what its picking up in the barrel. Whereas in the bag vaccuums u cant see it but they could be picking up just as much stuff?

Im sure I will love the dyson in a few months. Just need to find a better way of emptying it!

Thank you!

Empty it over your fence into your neighbour's yards. Lols follow.

All things being equal, a bagged vacuum will pickup more dust/dirt than a bagless.

When I empty my bagless I do it in inside a plastic shopping bag, out of the wind.

buy a bagged vacuum and vacuum the bagless section

  • I use a plastic bag to do that as well. Apart from that, DC59 rocks!

  • Just put the whole vacuum into the bin.

    Then get a bagged.

I don't think bag/bagless differentiates good and bad vacuums, I'd say it depends on the tech/features that's in it. I'm a big fan of the Dyson turbine head, makes a lot of difference on carpeted areas. On hard floors, there's probably less noticeable differences. Personally I upgraded to a Dyson DC23 from a $99 no name vacuum and the difference was amazing, particularly as I had a dog that shed a lot.

As for empyting, like the other commenters I also use a plastic shopping bag and do it out in the yard.

  • I empty mine into my compost bin.

  • +1 for the compost

  • Pus one, into a bag out of the wind. I don't know why you would choose a bagged over bagless, but each to their own.

  • I empty mine into a plastic shopping bag while holding it inside the rubbish bin. Keeps it out of the wind.

  • Unplug the vacuum. Empty the dirt container and check the upper tank, the hose, and the foot hose for clogs and take it out using a plastic fork. If it remains clogged, clean the filters by following the instructions on the manual.

  • Wind, used correctly, is an asset, not a liability. Turn your body and face to say 10 o'clock toward the wind, outstretch your arm holding the dust canister over the bin/bag receptacle at say 9 o'clock to the wind and empty the bag. The dust can't enter the vortex space behind your body or in your face, job done, easy as. Practice the best angle that works for you, it'll become clear enough. Cheers.
