RE Connect Cards or Simmilar

Hi Guys,
I have a doubt regarding my rental payments.
I am living in the same property since 2010, and I am very happy there, the problem is the real estate agency that manages the property, they are just useless, but that is not the main issue.
The thing is since I move there they are trying to make me pay using a ReConnect card (https://www.reconnect.com.au/). I know that they have to provide at least other 2 ways of paying the rent (Cash, debit, cheque, etc), the thing is that at the beginning I was paying cash, then they stop accepting that, suggesting again that card. Then I agree with a direct debit from my bank account which worked fine until they decided to stop offering that option, and again they offer the f@#$ card.
Now they offer as payment options card on the store (with a fee of $1 per transaction), bank cheque, and the RE Connect card (which has a fee of $2.95 per month). At last there is no way of paying the rent without having to pay for paying, which is annoying.
Any ideas how can I sort this thing out?

thanks!

  • I got round this issue by using ING Direct to send a bank cheque each month to the real estate agent's office via registered post for free.

Takes a bit more work as it is a manual process and bank cheques can only be sent for payments of $1,000 or more…so this might not help your situation if your rent is under $1,000.

If you live near or go past the real estate agent's office regularly, you could maybe deliver the cheque in person each time. I've got a cheque book from my NAB bank account for when cheque payments under $1,000 are needed.

Hope you can avoid paying to pay your rent too. :)

  • Yes I think I can negotiate to pay once per month only, so I can use the cheques.
    Thanks for the advice!
